It's the end of the year, with automotive brands giving back to the community in various ways. As we usher in the new year, let us reflect on 2018 a year most interesting for the Malaysian automotive sector.

 

New i Charging Facility in Melaka

BMW Malaysia has unveiled another i Charging Facility at Ramada Plaza by Wyndham Melaka. This follows the brand’s introductions earlier this year, with two in Ipoh and one in Penang. BMW Group Malaysia is currently the local leader in electro-mobility, with 57 per cent of electrified vehicles accounting for the total BMW and Mini deliveries from January to November 2018.

 

Ford Equips Drivers in Malaysia with Training to Stay Safe

Ford and Sime Darby Auto Connexion recently held its third safe driver training this year to corporate partners and members of the public through its global Driving Skills for Life (DSFL) programme. Held at MAEPS, more than 60 drivers participated in two half-day workshops. The workshop addresses various driver risks, such as dealing with unexpected scenarios, speed and space management, as well as raise awareness on distracted driving caused by mobile phone use of drowsiness.

 

Perodua’s Mid Valley showroom relocated

The authorised dealer, DMM Sales Sdn Bhd has relocated its Mid Valley showroom to Menara MBMR at Jalan Syed Putra. The showroom is now twice the size, and will be able to serve customers better. DMM Sales is one of Daihatsu (Malaysia) subsidiaries. It is currently the largest Perodua dealership holder with 17 sales, 13 service and two Body and Paint outlets across Malaysia. Based on a January to October 2018 total industry volume of 502,244 units, Perodua’s market share currently stands at 37.4 per cent.

 

Proton Hosts Pageant Delegates and Orphans

Delegates of the 21st Miss Tourism International (MTI) pageant visited the Proton Centre of Excellence recently for a test track experience of the new Proton X70 SUV. As the official vehicle of the 2018 Miss Tourism International pageant, the event presents as an opportunity to promote tourism and the culture of Malaysia. In the spirit and season of giving, the brand also hosted 25 children from Sweet Care orphanage to lunch at the event. The children were given taxi rides at the test track, spent time with the MTI delegates and presented with gifts.

 

Volvo Celebrates 2 Years of Keeping Kids Safe on the Road

Over the course of the past two years, Volvo Cars and Trucks have been actively involved in helping educate over 90,000 children on road safety to schools in Malaysia. In line with the brand’s vision that no one should be killed or seriously injured in a new Volvo car by 2020, children in KidZania learned how to be seated correctly in a car, how to properly use a safety belt as well as the importance of child seats. In addition to school visits, Volvo also helped underprivileged children by proving them to learn outside the classroom. Both Volvo Trucks and Volvo Cars sponsored a total 1,600 kids and teachers.

 

Volvo Car launches 3S Centre in Kuching

Volvo Car together with dealer Fotroende Automobile has opened Volvo Kuching – marking the brands decade-long re-entry into Sarawak. Like all Volvo dealerships, Volvo Kuching will adhere to the latest showroom and service standards which Volvo calls the “Volvo Retail Experience”. The company name of Fotroende Automobile is derived from the Swedish word “Förtroende” which means “confidence”, something that the company’s Principal hopes to build together with the brand in Kuching. The showroom opens from 8.30am till 5.30pm, Monday to Friday and closes at 4pm on Saturdays. Showroom is open on Sundays and Public Holidays from 10am till 3pm. Wearnes Automotive launches Service 2.0 program

To distinguish themselves with other Volkswagen dealers in the market, Wearnes has launched the Service 2.0 program at their Sg Besi outlet that allows customers a service booking via WhatsApp at 012-9389929, where appointments can be done merely through the customer’s name, vehicle registration number, service type, vehicle current mileage and preferred appointment date. Other initiatives includes Fast Lane Service for a swift 2 hour service period only for standard scheduled maintenance service, complimentary breakfast, jockey service, free shuttle service, and night drop-off service for those unable to send in their vehicles to service during regular business hours.
