Proton announces recall for Perdana passenger airbags

In line with the global recall for cars equipped with Takata airbags, Proton has announced a service fix to repair the passenger airbag inflator for all current generation Proton Perdana models.

This is a precautionary measure and affects cars built from 2012 to the end of August 2018 as the model is based on the Honda Accord. A total of 6,432 units of the Proton Perdana are affected.

All action taken is in accordance with the latest Defect Information Report (DIR) issued by the National Highway Traffic and Safety Administration (NHTSA) of America that requires the replacement of non-desiccated passenger inflators.

Proton has highlighted that the safety of their owners are of the utmost importance and will notify all affected owners of the recall. All Perdana owners are advised to call their designated service centres to book an appointment for the replacement of the passenger airbag in their cars. Cars built after 31st August 2018 are unaffected by the service fix and replacement of the affected inflators will take approximately one hour and will be free of charge.

Customers are advised to call the Proton Customer Care Hotline at 1800-888-398 or email customercars@proton.com for enquiries and assistance.
