The 2019 Perodua Axia is here – New Style, Better Safety

Perodua has launched the 2019 Axia facelift. Malaysia’s most affordable car will be available in six variants – E, G, GXtra, SE, Style and AV (Advance). It is priced from RM 24,090 for the basic E spec, and goes all the way up until RM 43,190 for the AV.

There is an Axia for everyone now, as Perodua has included two more and new variants of GXtra and Style compared to the outgoing range. In terms of engine options, it is the same 1.0-litre 3-cylinder unit with VVT-I outputting 67 hp and 91 Nm of torque at 4,400 rpm either mated to a 5-speed manual or 4-speed automatic transmission. The Axia remains its EEV status with a 21.6 km per litre for the automatic.

In the design front, the facelift now shares the bumper designs across the board, with differences visible in fog lamps, accents, head and taillamps, rims and trim to differentiate the variants. As for equipment and safety, Vehicle Stability Control and Traction Control is a new addition that comes in the GXtra spec and above, on top of the existing ABS and EBD. Dual SRS Airbags is standard on all variants, so is seat belt, key, headlight reminders and Isofix.

One of the best additions has to be the Advanced Safety Assist (ASA) system 2.0 that brings Pedestrian Detection (up to 50 km/h), Pre-Collision Warning (up to 100 km/h), Pre-Collision Braking (up to 80 km/h), Front Departure Alert and Pedal Misoperation Control functions to mitigate collisions that is only on the top range AV.

However, the highlight of the 2019 Axia must be the new Style variant. Here, the exterior sports a rugged looking front and rear bumper with skid plate elements, all-round body cladding, clear-lens tail lamps, roof mouldings, rear spoiler, new 15-inch five-spoke alloy rims and an exclusive Sunrise Orange paint to match the trendy crossover look. The Style looks visually larger thanks to the exterior additions and is also 15mm taller than the others which is a result from the larger rims and tyres.

Equipment and features in the SE variants upwards are pretty good. They all come with Smart Entry with Push Start Button, Front Corner Sensors (except for Style variant), Audio with USB and Bluetooth, Semi-bucket type front seats, Chrome finish door handles, and Full door trim among others.

The AV variant comes with the Multimedia System with Navigation and Smart Link with Reverse camera, and also the ASA 2.0 as seen in the Perodua Aruz.
