A prosperous CNY ahead with the new 2020 Perodua Bezza

Perodua has officially launched the facelifted 2020 Perodua Bezza on 8th January 2020. The Perodua Bezza is the company’s first ever sedan and Malaysia’s first Energy-Efficient Vehicle (EEV) sedan when it launched in 2016. To date, over 184,000 units have been sold.

Variants and Engine

The 2020 Bezza is offered in four variants – 1.0 G Manual, 1.0 G Auto, 1.3 X Auto and 1.3 AV Auto. The G variants are powered by a 1.0-liter 3-cylinder engine that develops 67 hp and 91 Nm of torque at 4,400 rpm while the X and AV variants’ 1.3-liter unit outputs 94 hp and 121 Nm of torque at 4,000 rpm. Perodua’s official fuel consumption figures with Eco-driving puts the G manual variant at 22.8 km per liter; G auto variant at 21.3 km per liter; X auto variant at 21 km per liter and 22 km per liter for the top range AV auto variant.

Exterior and Interior Design

The exterior design of the new Bezza is now sportier thanks to a redesigned front grille and bumper, as well as new slimmer designed LED headlamps. At the front, the sharper styling of the vent that houses the fog lamps comes together with the slimmer LED headlamps to project a bolder look. Compared next to the current generation Myvi, the designs are now cohesive.

Before moving to the rear, the side skirts are now two-tone – a mix of an upper vehicle color with a lower black.

A look at the rear strip that goes across the trunk lid also showcases a two-tone chrome with black trim. The sharp styling in the front follows on at the rear bumpers.

The interior does not look as monotone as before. A silver trim now goes across the dashboard to provide some contrast to the look.

Further changes include the redesigned driver instrument cluster and new semi-bucket leather seats that is only available on the AV variant.

Better Safety

The most important update for 2020 is the inclusion of Perodua’s Advanced Safety Assist (ASA) 2.0 suite of driver assistant safety systems in the AV variant. With the ASA 2.0 now making its debut in the Bezza range, Perodua’s latest line-up of cars including the Axia, Myvi and Aruz (except the Alza) now all feature ASA.

ASA 2.0 comprises Pedestrian Detection (up to 50 km/h), Pre-Collision Warning (up to 100 km/h), Pre-Collision Braking (up to 80 km/h), Front Departure Alert and Pedal Misoperation Control, all of which work together to mitigate collisions.

Dual SRS airbags come as standard together with ABS, EBD and Isofix mounts while the X and AV variants now come with Vehicle Stability Control, together with Traction Control and Brake Assist.

Highlight Features

The X and AV variants is very similarly equipped. This includes front fog lamps, a 5V 2-amp USB A port at the rear, four speakers, smart entry with smart key and push start button and front corner sensors. The AV variant gains retractable side mirrors, semi-bucket leather seats, multimedia system with navigation and ‘Smart Link’ with USB, Bluetooth and HDMI, leather wrapped steering wheel with audio switches, and a reverse camera.

Colors, Price & Ownership

The Bezza continues with the previously available exterior colors, with the addition of Granite Grey and Garnet Red (the latter only on the X and AV variants). Prices start from RM 34,580 for the 1.0 G manual, RM 36,580 for the 1.0 G auto, RM 43,980 for the 1.3 X auto and RM 49,980 for the 1.3 AV auto. All prices are on-the-road before insurance in Peninsular Malaysia and comes with a five-year or 150,000 km warranty, whichever comes first.

GearUp Accessories

Perodua also included a list of external and internal accessories available separately, or together in three distinct packages. The Utility Package at RM340 adds on a hood insulator, coil mats, luggage tray and booster cables; Illumination Package at RM450 includes floor lighting and LED scuff plates, as well as a Stylish Package at RM2,120 that adds on a dynamic bodykit with light guides and rear spoiler with side door protectors.
