Volvo Cars Malaysia has officially launched the third generation S60 in Malaysia. Based on the brand’s Scalable Product Architecture (SPA) platform, the new S60 is available in only one variant, the T8 Twin Engine R-Design.
The all-new S60 follows in the brand’s current design language. Thor hammer LED DRLs at the front, the twin C shaped taillights at the rear, and an overall smaller and sportier take on the larger S90 sedan.
The R-Design trim that’s available locally has the R-Design grille with silk metal finish frame and a sportier front bumper with glossy black lower outer grilles. The rear finishes the look with two exhaust pipes to a contrasting strip and body colour. The S60 sits on 19-inch 5-Triple Spoke Matt Tech Black Diamond Cut alloys.
Before heading into the interior, the highlight of the S60 must be its numbers. This T8 Twin Engine powertrain is a 2.0-litre supercharged and turbocharged four-cylinder unit that outputs 320 hp and 400 Nm of torque to the front and is assisted with an electric motor with 87 hp and 240 Nm that powers the rear. Everything comes together with an 8-speed automatic with Geartronic to all-wheels. Total output is a menacing 407 hp and 640 Nm at 1,200 to 5,400 rpm. Century sprint is 4.4-seconds.
Fuel consumption in a combined cycle is stated at 2-litres per 100 km with a C02 emission of 46 g/km.
Because this is a plug-in hybrid, the S60 T8 comes with a Type 2 Mennekes plug for charging and will take about three hours to fully charge the 11.6 kWh lithium-ion battery unit. In full electric mode, range is a claimed 49 km.
Inside the layout still features Volvo’s minimalist Scandinavian style. The cabin greets the driver with a three-spoke R-Design leather steering wheel with paddle shifters, 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, nine-inch Sensus Connect infotainment touchscreen unit compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, heads-up display and fine nappa leather seats with an open grid textile upholstery.
Features include a 14-speaker Harman Kardon sound system, and for the driver, Adaptive Cruise Control, Pilot Assist, Park Assist Front and Rear, Park Assist Pilot and 360-degree Surround View Camera.
Passive safety includes six airbags, whiplash protection system for front seats and post-collision auto braking and unlocking amongst others. Volvo’s Intellisafe active safety includes City Safety with Steering support, Front and Rear Collision Warning and Mitigation support, Lane Keeping Aid, BLIS, Cross Traffic Alert and more.
The all-new Volvo S60 T8 R-Design is priced at RM 295,888 on the road without insurance and comes with a five-year unlimited mileage warranty. Five colours will be available, including Fusion Red, Onyx Black, Crystal White, Birch Light and Pebble Grey.
