Everything You Need to Know About The All-New 2018 Kia Picanto!

Naza Kia Malaysia has started off the new year by launching the all-new 2018 Kia Picanto. The third generation Kia Picanto, is currently the only new non-national brand in the local A-segment hatchback line up. How is it? First impressions on the 2018 model highlights a few notable improvements in design, performance and versatility. Shall we take a closer look?

 

In terms of mechanics, the 1.2 litre Kappa MPI engine is passed down from the previous generation Picanto. The efficient engine is capable of producing 83 hp at 6,000 rpm and 122 Nm at 4,000 rpm. It all sets up for a smooth drive on highways or city traffic thanks to the practical 4-speed transmission. Only one variant of the Picanto will be available at launch.

 

The 2018 Kia Picanto also has bi-functional halogen headlamps that projects high and low beams. Styling wise, LED indicators and daytime running lights complete the look both front and rear. It’s good to note that front and rear fog lamps are included in the market version.

In terms of dimensions, the new Picanto’s wheelbase is now 15 mm more at 2,400 mm, and maintains the similar numbers for the rest of car with the previous generation.

 

Inside, the refined cabin is instantly noticable. Essentially, the horizontal design of the dashboard adds greater visual width to the interior, highlighting the spacious cabin dimensions it has. In terms of comfort, the seats are revamped to provide better seating for all occupants. The car offers more headroom, shoulder room and legroom than ever before, and luggage capacity has improved up to 255 litres, 55 litres more than the previous.

 

On the infotainment side, the new Picanto sports a ‘floating’ 7.0-inch touchscreen at the centre of the dashboard that is Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatible with voice recognition. Users can certainly gain from the in-built mobile features on their smartphones including navigation, music and messages. Extra features include an audio remote control, Bluetooth, AUX and USB ports.

 

The overall build of the Picanto is stronger than before, 44 per cent of the body shell is cast in Advanced High Strength Steel (AHSS), double the amount constructed with the previous gen. The static torsional stiffness of the car has been improved by 32 per cent. Safety wise, the new Picanto comes with six airbags, Isofix, rear seatbelt pretensioners and active safety systems of ABS, ESC, TRC and Brake Assist.

 

It doesn’t stop there though, Naza Kia Malaysia is also reintroducing the ‘NOVUS’ Kia accessory bundle for all new Kia vehicles, starting with the all-new Picanto. The NOVUS X bundle includes emblems, solar window tint, leather seats and a dashcam, priced at RM 5,618, while the standard body kit bundle is priced at RM 3,498.

 

The new 1.2 EX automatic Kia Picanto is priced at RM 49,888 on-the-road without insurance. There will be five colour options – Pop Orange, Lime Light, Honey Bee, Clear White and Titanium Silver. A standard five-year, unlimited mileage warranty comes with the Picanto.
