Earlier today, Volkswagen Passenger Cars Malaysia has pulled the covers off the facelifted VW Golf variants including the 1.4 TSI, GTI and R.
Essentially the Mk7.5, the new range now has LED DRLs and LED tail lamps as standard as well as App-Connect that offers smartphone screen mirroring and compatibility with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. To add on, Adaptive Chassis Control is now on both the GTI and R as standard, a 12.3-inch Active Info Driver Display as well as new exterior colours that'll separate these new line from the pre-facelift models.
Golf 1.4 TSI
For the 1.4 TSI, two variants are available – a Sportline and R-Line. Both variants as standard feature a new 8-inch Composition Media, 7-Airbags, Electronic Stability Control and VWs Proactive Occupant Protection System, as the name implies, precautionarily protects the occupants before imminent collision.
Differences between the Sportline and R-Line however is based on the more aggressive front and rear bumper design, larger rims, and a 12.3-inch Active Info Display and leather seats for the latter. In terms of performance, the 1.4-litre turbocharged engine produces 148 hp with 250 Nm of torque from 1,500 to 3,500 rpm mated to a seven-speed DSG transmission.
The visual cues that separates the GTI and other Golf models is the distinctive GTI red character line that goes across the centre grille into the new Advanced Adaptive LED head lamps. The 12.3-inch Active Info Display for the driver is also now standard that'll provide a variety of display choices for driver information. The 8-inch infotainment unit here is the Discover Media version, which comes with the host of connectivity, as well as rear-view camera, Park Assist and Cruise Control on top of the rest.
Power for the GTI is from a 2.0-litre unit with a 227 hp and 350 Nm from 1,500 to 4,600 rpm of torque. Transmission is a six-speed DSG. Exterior colours are great too, with additional new Deep Black, Iridium Grey and Dark Iron Blue on top of Pure White and Tornado Red.
If you're the type that prefers to make a statement, the Golf R is one that gets the message across. Of course the new styling is a head turner, as well as the 19-inch black alloy rims that it sits on. Power from the 2.0-litre unit is 286 hp and 380 Nm of torque from 2,000 to 5,400 rpm. The R however gets the seven-speed DSG transmission that goes through the 4Motion all-wheel drive system. Century sprint is 5.1-seconds for this hot hatch.
Colours available on the new R are Pure White, Deep Black and Lapiz Blue.
