The all-new Lexus ES and new RX are here

After its preview at the KLIMS 2018 and its open booking in July, Lexus Malaysia has officially launched the all-new 7th generation ES together with the facelifted RX. The 2019 ES features the brand’s latest design with the rearward sloping roofline for that coupe silhouette for more efficient aerodynamics.

Known for its comfort and refinement the Lexus way, the all-new ES builds on an all-new chassis that also allows for an even better driving performance. Interior space has been enhanced for all occupants with a 1,025 mm couple distance, along with an improved room and quietness. Of course, when it comes to lounging back to relax, passengers at the back also get powered reclining seats.

Under the hood lies a 2.5-litre 4-cylinder engine producing 204 hp and 247 Nm of torque at 5,000 rpm paired to a new 8-speed Direct Shift automatic. Zero to hundred sprint is 9.1-seconds.

Lexus Malaysia offers the ES 250 in two variants – Premium and Luxury. As standard, the ES comes with the Lexus Safety System+ which includes Pre-Collision system, Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, Stop and Go function, Blind Spot Monitor, and the Lane Departure Alert and Lane Tracing Assist.

The Premium spec itself gets powered front seats, 8-inch infotainment unit and 7-inch instrument cluster, keyless entry with push start, and a 10-speaker Pioneer audio system. The Luxury however adds on a heads-up display, larger infotainment unit at 12.3-inch, ambient lighting and Qi wireless charger amongst others.

As for the price, the ES 250 Premium retails at RM 299,888 while the Luxury goes for RM 332,888.

RX 300

The latest facelift comes in three variants of Premium, Luxury and F Sport, streamlining down the RX 350 and RX 450h that was offered before. The latest offers enhancements and upgrades similar to the ES. Here the Lexus Safety System+ also comes standard on all RX variants.

Interior trim and themes are an Ocher with Shimamoku Wood Trim, Black with Shimamoku Wood Trim and Noble Brown with Shimamoku Wood Trim. Both variants are upholstered with semi-aniline leather on the Premium and Luxury while the F Sport comes with two, Flare Red or Black with Aluminium trim and F Sport leather.

Like the ES, the new RX Premium also gets the 8-inch touchscreen unit, while the higher end Luxury and F Sport flavours get the 12.3-inch with navigation. Android Auto and Apple CarPlay also comes compatible as standard. The audio units are a Pioneer 12-speaker system.

The RX 300 is powered by a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol developing 235 hp and 350 Nm of torque from 1,650 to 4,000 rpm and mated to a six-speed automatic. Power goes to the Dynamic Torque Control AWD for the best of grip.

Several changes have been made to enhance driving dynamics and expanding driving pleasure. The shock absorbers have been re-tuned while upgraded dampers at the front and rear feature a new Friction Control Damper (FCD) device that helps to control high frequency vibrations (caused by minute road-surface imperfections) for a smoother ride as well as enhanced steering feel. For the F Sport, Adaptive Variable Suspension (AVS) has an expanded control range of up to 650 levels for better manoeuvrability and ride comfort. Performance dampers are also installed to help minimize the effects of minute body deformation during hard driving.

The RX 300 Premium is priced at RM 399,888, Luxury at RM 424,888 and the F Sport at RM 439,888 on the road without insurance.
