Stand out with Porsche’s 718 Cayman SportDesign Series

Sime Darby Auto Performance has introduced the Porsche 718 Cayman SportDesign Series, a special 718 Cayman that has been treated to a sporty new option package with a limited run of just 15 units in Malaysia.

How limited is it?

Quite limited. As of launch, we’ve been told that only 10 units remain. The 15 units in total are actually split into the three available colours for this SportDesign. There’s only five units each of the Racing Yellow, Carrara White Metallic and Guards Red available.

What makes this SportDesign different from the standard 718 Cayman?

Apart from the limited numbers, the visual and performance area has additional extras. Design wise, the SportDesign Package puts on a unique front end with a newly designed front spoiler and rear apron. Of course the unmistakable carbon-fibre stripes and the contrasting black accents on the door handles and centrally positioned black tailpipes complete the look. Focusing on further details, the headlights are LED units with Porsche Dynamic Light System Plus to ensure optimum visibility. As with current Porsche signature head and tail lamps, the four spot DRLs and brake lights at the rear leaves a lasting impression.

Customers will be able to choose between the Carrera S or Carrera Sport Wheel designs for the 20-inch wheels.

What about the interior?

The cabin is carbon decorative with black leather for that sleek premium look. Carbon is seen in the door panels, centre console and the centre trim that runs across the dashboard. The only separator to the cabin is the centre armrest which is wrapped in suede and embossed with the brand name. There’s 14-way power seats with comfort memory foam for both passengers, 10-speaker Bose Surround Sound System with 505 watts of power for the most immersive sound experience. The central Porsche Sports Chrono analogue clock on top of the dashboard is coloured to match to exterior vehicle shade.

Does it stand out in performance?

Yes, it is enough in terms of numbers. The 718 Cayman SportDesign is powered by a 2.0-litre turbocharged engine producing 300 hp and 380 Nm of torque from a low 1,950 to 4,000 rpm and mated to a seven-speed PDK dual-clutch transmission sending power to the rear. The century sprint can be achieved in just 4.7 seconds.

Porsche’s Active Suspension Management is also fitted as standard here, which lowered the body by 10 mm for a sportier chassis.

How is ownership?

The 718 Cayman SportDesign is priced at RM 625,000 including duties except registration, road tax and insurance and comes with a four-year warranty and free maintenance package.
