Hap Seng Star Comes Out Champions At This Year’s Mercedes-Benz SEA II Skills Competition

It is never easy being a huge dealership for a continental brand as globally renowned as Mercedes-Benz. More so when the brand comes with the tagline that reads “The Best Or Nothing”. To meet the growing demands and expectations of the privileged Mercedes-Benz clientele where technology and customers become more sophisticated than ever, it is imperative that Hap Seng Star and its family of skilled customer service professionals are well-equipped and adept in this field to serve customers better.

In the recently concluded Mercedes-Benz SEA II Skills Competition 2018 which was into its 10th anniversary, this was where Hap Seng Star and its experienced team pitted their wits against others from Malaysia and around the region. The battle was set, and the reward? To be declared the best at their technical know-how and adeptness within the Mercedes-Benz network. Held once every two years, this event was the perfect platform for Hap Seng Star to showcase just why it is slowly, but surely becoming the biggest Mercedes-Benz dealership in Malaysia.

The biennial competition that has been held since 2008 was designed to bring together all Mercedes-Benz dealers which are then tested on their on-the-job skills & competence. This year marked the first time that members of other countries in the region were invited to participate which explained the huge increase in participants from 133 back in 2008 to a whopping 631 in 2018.

The competition was split among five categories: Qualified Maintenance Technician (QMT), Qualified System Technician (QST), Certified Diagnostic Technician (CDT), Certified Service Advisor (CSA) and Qualified Parts Process Specialist (QPPS). The distinguished qualified panel of judges comprised of skilled experts and the senior management of Mercedes-Benz Malaysia.

As the competition intensified, only a selected few made it to the finals. Out of the 25 finalists and a result of this rallying cry, Hap Seng Star crossed the finish line and proudly claimed the ‘Champion Ranking’ for 3 out of 5 categories and were in the top spots in 4 out of 5 of the categories. But winning isn’t new for the group. In the Certified Service Advisor category, the group has won consecutively since 2010, with a miss in 2012.

The winners from Hap Seng Star not only took home as high as RM10,000 in cash prizes and trophies for their outstanding performances, they also claimed some very important bragging rights from the other participating dealerships.

Certified Diagnosis Technician Siew Yann Hwang, Qualified System Technician Wong Yee Yew, and Certified Service Advisor Kueh Swee Teng came up champions along with first runner ups Swee Teng Siang, Low Yee Seng, Diagnosis and System Technicians and second runner ups Fuan Chai Sheng and Hui Wai Luen, Service Advisor and Parts Process Specialist.

All in all, the Skills Competition was an exciting event by Mercedes-Benz Malaysia as it brought all participants of the brand together. Despite the stiff competition, it didn’t steal the focus from the main goal which is to strive to be better and to learn from one another to provide the best service for Mercedes-Benz customers.

Hap Seng Star, no stranger to the limelight, was once again at the center of attraction as it claimed a huge victory in the competition and registered the most number of ‘Champion’ rankings in 3 out of 5 contested categories. As one of the biggest dealerships for Mercedes-Benz vehicles in Malaysia, this was a proud victory for Hap Seng Star, a brand that stands strong and holds its own.
