Isuzu Malaysia’s previous success with the brand’s Dura-Miles Challenge in Kuching and Ipoh recently organised its fuel efficiency campaign again in Miri, Sarawak. Unlike most other competitions where speed of completion is usually the goal for winning, the Dura-Miles Challenge winner is the driver who manages to complete the journey with the lowest fuel consumption.
The competition’s objective is to test Isuzu’s D-Max key strengths of fuel efficiency, while at the same time, stay connected to their customers. Isuzu is well known for building vehicles that has extremely low fuel consumption.
The Miri leg of the competition saw 35 competitors driving through scenic coastal roads with a distance of 280 km which was completed within 4 hours. The winners, Mr Hiew and Ms Maria in the 3.0 and 2.5-litre D-Max’s achieved 13.02 and 14.20-litres respectively over coastal road conditions with heavy trucks present during their journey. Mr Hiew managed to clock in an impressive 21.50 km per litre and Ms Maria 19.72 km/l, the best figures thus far amongst all three legs of the Challenge.
“From year to year, our D-Max innovation and evolution has made it a preferred pick-up truck for motorists due to its performance, comfort, dependability and fuel efficiency. To push our product limits, we did out third attempt to test our D-Max fuel efficiency in Dura-Miles Challenge in 2015. We drove from Bangkok and travelled across 3 countries in 4 days with just one full tank of diesel. The distance of 1,809 km was covered and averaged 24 km per litre of fuel. Thus far, our D-Max has never failed to impress us in terms of its economical fuel consumption,” said Masayuki Suzuki, COO of Isuzu Malaysia.
