The Toyota Yaris is back and better than ever!

UMW Toyota Motor has launched the all-new third generation Toyota Yaris in Malaysia. The latest hatchback is actually the hatchback sibling of the current Toyota Vios sold. The new Yaris will be assembled locally right here in Bukit Raja, Klang, Selangor, alongside its sedan brother.

 

 

How much power does it have?

The engine in the Yaris is identical to the Vios. It is the same 1.5-litre Dual VVT-i engine that outputs 105 hp and 140 Nm of torque at 4,200 rpm. It is paired to a CVT with 7-speed Sport Sequential Shiftmatic.

 

What about the variants and specifications?

There will be three available variants, a 1.5 J, 1.5 E and 1.5 G. Standard across the range is the Daytime Running Lights, suspension system, which is MacPherson Struts in the front, and Torsion Beam at the rear. As for the interior, it comes with black fabric seats with blue stitching, two USB charging ports, front passengers foot illumination, and illuminated scuff plates.

 

As for the safety, ABS comes standard with EBD and Brake Assist, Vehicle Stability Control with Traction Control, Rear Parking Sensors and a full 7 SRS Airbags.

 

What’s the breakdown features for the individual variants?

The 1.5 J is the entry variant. Beginning with the headlamps, they are Reflector Halogen units with Manual Levelling. As for the rear lamps, they are bulbs units which also include rear fog lamps. When it comes to the interior, the combination instrument cluster is analogue, and omits the Multi-information Display. The J spec also does not include the Drive mode switch for Sport and Eco Modes. As for the audio unit, it comes with a CD player, MP3, USB with AUX and Bluetooth connectivity and has 4-speakers.

 

Moving on to the 1.5 E, the headlamps are better Projector Halogen units with Manual Levelling, rear lamps are LED and Fog lamps are front and rear. Rims are 16-inch alloys, an inch up from the J spec. As for the driver instrument cluster, the meter adds on the Multi-information Display which are backlit and allows the driver to operate Bluetooth and phone functions via the steering wheel. The headunit here is an upgraded DVD player with a 6.8-inch touchscreen, USB mirroring, Voice Dial, USB, AUX and Bluetooth.

 

There’s also a Panoramic View Monitor that puts together a 360-degree view of the Yaris while parking. For added safety, the E spec also comes with a DVR, and Blind Spot Monitor with Rear Cross Traffic Alert.

 

As for the 1.5 G spec, the features are identical to the E apart from improved additions. Beginning with the exterior, the G comes with all discs, and on it inside, adds on the Optitron meter with Full colour TFT Information Display selectable via the leather wrapped steering wheel. Audio here is also 6-speakers, Auto Air Conditioning, and from the safety front, Blind Spot Monitor with Rear Cross Traffic Alert is also included.

 

Are there add-ons for the lower spec?

Yes! There is an optional aerokit that adds on front, rear, roof spoilers and side skirts for RM 2,880. For J spec owners, the Digital Video Recorder and touchscreen headunit can be added too.

 

What are prices like and warranty?

The Yaris J, E and G spec are priced at RM 70,888; RM 76,888 and RM 83,888 on the road without insurance for Peninsular Malaysia. As for colours, the Yaris can be had in Silver Metallic, Super White, Attitude Black, Red Mica Metallic and Citrus Mica Metallic. It comes with a five-years warranty with unlimited mileage.
