The New Mini Hatch Is Here To Inject Style Into Your Life

Mini Malaysia has introduced the facelifted third-generation Mini hatchback in both 3-door and 5-door versions of the Cooper S variant!

But the new Mini looks the same. What’s different?

Mini’s have been about style and standing out without compromising on driving fun. While the new Mini looks the same to the regular joe, loyalists will notice the additions that comes with this facelift. Read on to find out!

Power & Transmission

The latest engines and transmissions have been fitted on the new Mini’s to provide better response and yet is more economical than the previous. Both 3-door and 5-door models are powered by the 2.0-litre 4-cylinder TwinPower Turbo engines that deliver 192 hp and 280 Nm of torque from 1,250 to 4,600 rpm. Top speed is stated at 235 km/h. In terms of transmission, these new Mini’s are the first to use a 7-speed dual-clutch unit. Century sprint for the 3-door Cooper S is 6.7-seconds while combined fuel consumption is at 5.5-litres/100 km. The 5-door model is only 0.1 more for both figures.

The improved fuel consumption of the new duo is thanks to a 13 per cent lighter engine cover made with Carbon Fibre Reinforced Plastic and an overall eight kilograms in weight savings for the whole unit.

Aesthetic Design

This is where the new Mini stands out. At the front, new LED headlamp units feature Daytime Running Lights and are powered by Bi-LED units, switching from DRLs to the LED indicators when activated. The headlights are also brighter than previous versions.

At the back, the new stylised rear lamps in the Union Jack design is one that certainly draws the most attention while showcasing the brand’s strong heritage.

Look closer at the brand’s new logo and you’ll also notice that it now reflects the latest iteration that is flatter with more prominence on the wings.

For the Cooper S 5-door, the John Cooper Works Aerodynamic Kit with an eye-catching spoiler comes as standard for Malaysia and is further paired with 17-inch high-gloss John Cooper Works Track rims in black.

Take A Look Inside

The moment the doors are open, passengers are now greeted with the brand’s Logo Projection beamed on the ground. But once in the cabin, new chic cues of the Mini Illuminated Cockpit stylised with the Union Jack display, lights up in 12 different selectable ambient colours to suit all moods.

A view further below will also showcase the newly designed flat-shaped electronic gear lever. Just like the shifter on the brand’s parent company BMW, the lever has an unlock button and actuates front and back to select gears.

In terms of the infotainment unit, the 6.5-inch display is touch enabled on top of the standard operation via the Controller on the centre console. Navigation is included as with Mini Connected that allows owners to integrate smartphone apps on top of the Mini Connected App for a range of vehicle info. Both Mini’s also come with a Rear View Camera with guidelines for easier manoeuvrability.

For the first time in South East Asia, Mini Malaysia is introducing Mini Yours Customised Accessories, a range of customised components like side scuttles, LED Door Sill Finishers, LED Door Projector and Cockpit Fascias that can be retrofitted on the cars.

Furthermore, Adaptive Suspension comes standard to provide more controlled and precise handling. Inside the JCW, Dinamica Leather JCW Racing Seats are accentuated by Chili Red colour lines while Head Up Display makes driving more focused.
