The 2018 Ford Ranger Wildtrak 4×4 is the best featured pick-up you can get today

Sime Darby Auto Connexion has launched the new 2019 Ford Ranger facelift in Malaysia. Consisting a total of eight variants not including the Ranger Raptor (which will be officially launched soon), the latest revision isn’t just cosmetic but includes power and transmission updates.

 

At the highlight of it all, the top of the variant list is the Ranger Wildtrak 4×4. In terms of specifications and features, this variant Here’s why the latest Wildtrak 4×4 is the best it’s ever been.

 

Power

Underneath the pack leader, the Wildtrak 4×4 gets a first and only in-class 2.0-litre EcoBlue Bi-Turbo engine that outputs 210 hp and 500 Nm of torque from 1,750 to 2,000 rpm mated to a 10-speed automatic with SelectShift and electronic shift-on-the-fly.

 

Exterior

At the front, changes include a new bold grille finished in dark grey, with the LED fog lamps as well as HID headlights with DRLs in the lamp units. At the front fenders, the badge which previously highlighted 3.2, 6 Auto has been replaced with the words Bi-Turbo. At the doors, Ford Malaysia has also included keyless entry with updated modern sensors. Towards the rear, updates only include bolder shaded lettering on the Ranger print.

 

Ford has also updated the Tailgate to include an easy lift system – which incorporates a torsion bar to make lifting and lowering the tailgate effortless. The cargo bay also includes a 12V socket and an LED light.

 

Interior

The cabin is largely similar with a full black interior to replace the previous light grey at the lower dashboard. The instrument panel is similar with the central speedo analogue with dual 4-inch digital info displays.

 

Climate control is automatic dual zone and the icing on the cake is Ford’s latest 8-inch touchscreen infotainment unit loaded with Sync 3. Sync 3 understands over 10,000 natural voice commands and is also compatible with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Others include a USB port and 12V socket at the front, and an additional 12V socket with a three-pin 230V AC outlet at the rear. On this top Wildtrak variant, Active Noice Cancellation is also present in the interior.

 

Strength and Capability

The Ranger is without a doubt built for a challenge. It has an unbeatable 3,500 kg towing capacity and 1,000 kg payload for those heavy cargo thanks to rear leaf spring suspension. In terms of going over terrain, there’s a 237 mm ground clearance and a further unbelievable 800 mm water wading capability. Curb angle of approach is 29.4 degrees, departure at 22 degrees and 21.5 degrees for rampover angle.

 

Safety

In terms of passive safety, the Wildtrak gets six airbags including sides and curtain, Tailgate Lock, ABS, EBD, ESC, Brake Assist, Hill Descent Control, Rollover Mitigation, Trailer Sway Control and Adaptive Load Control.

But the Ranger Wildtrak 4×4 doesn’t just stop there. There’s active safety which includes Forward Collision Warning, Lane Departure Warning and Assist, Semi-Automatic Parallel Parking and Autonomour Emergency Braking with Vehicle and Pedestrian Detection.

 

Ownership

The Ranger Wildtrak 4×4 is priced at RM 144,888 available in Frozen White, Magnetic, Absolute Black and Saber colours. Sime Darby Auto Connexion is giving two-years or 40,000 km free maintenance for those who register before 31st January 2019.
