Hyundai Sime Darby Motors pulled the covers off the all-new sixth generation Elantra last week that will be available in three variants – a 2.0 MPI Executive and Dynamic, and a Elantra Sport with a 1.6-litre turbocharged engine.
The new Elantra design is one that delivers an athletic presence from various angles. Right at the front, the prominent hexagonal front grille, front air vents, LED daytime running lights and striking headlights take charge. Sweeping towards the silhouette, the silky smooth shape moulds with the rear, where the boldness and curves are just right to create that sportier stance with the eye-catching split type LED tail lamps. Functional to reduce drag, the new Elantra design features a drag coefficient of only 0.27 thanks to an innovative wheel air curtain, smoother under-body structure with undercover applied to the entire floor plan.
Other than steering wheel design differences, the Sport variant features red across door panels, seats, steering wheel finishes.
On the inside, the interior has been designed to provide spaciousness and comfort, as well as an ergonomic design for the driver – with multimedia and control buttons easily accessible. In terms of power, both the naturally aspirated 2.0 MPI and turbocharged 1.6 GDI are good in figures. The 2.0-litre unit delivers 150 hp with 192Nm of torque at 4,000 rpm mated to a 6-speed automatic while the punchier 1.6-litre turbo outputs 201 hp with 265Nm of torque at 1,500 to 4,500 rpm. The Sport variant is mated to an Ecoshift 7-speed dual-clutch transmission and has paddle shifters with can be paired with the Drive modes.

In terms on convenience, even the 2.0-Executive variant comes featured with 8-way Mechanical Seats with Lumbar Support, 6:4 type Folding Rear Seats, Rear Air Vents, Touchscreen LCD with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support, Auto Cruise Control, Rear View Camera, Smart Trunk and even a Tyre Pressure Monitoring System. You’ll certainly expect more with the higher variants. In terms of safety, all variants come standard with 6-Airbags, Electronic Stability Control, Vehicle Stability Management, Traction Control, ABS and Hill Assist Control.
Prices for the 2.0 MPI Executive is RM 116,388, 2.0 Dynamic at RM 120,588 and the 1.6 Sport at RM 131,488, all on the road without insurance. The Elantra will have a 5-year or 300,000km warranty as well as a 24-hour road assist service. These new Elantra owners will also have a 50,000km of free service with a three-year validity.
All variants will be available in seven colours – Polar White, Phantom Black, Iron Grey, Platinum Silver, Marina Blue, Blazing Yellow and Fiery Red, and feature 17-inch rims albeit different designs as per variant.
