Apart from Bezza facelift and Myvi’s new color choices, we didn’t see new models from Perodua this year. But that’s about to change in 2021 with their latest compact SUV that is set to launch next year. It is said to take its place above the Myvi in the local line up and it will be Perodua’s next product that will draw in massive sales figures, as seen in the popularity of SUVs in Malaysia. It is currently known as the D55L, as they haven’t figured out a suitable name for this car just yet.

As we all know, Malaysians have absolutely loved their Honda City ever since its introduction in 1996. You might not know this, but Honda City was actually created as a hatchback and this is the version which will be introduced in Malaysia next year. The City Hatchback line-up is powered by the same engine used by its sedan sibling, with a 1.0 litre (998 cc) VTEC Turbo three-cylinder delivering 122 PS at 5,500 rpm and 173 Nm of torque from 2,000 to 4,500 rpm. The mill, which works with E20 gasohol, is paired with a continuously variable transmission (CVT) that drives the front wheels. This car is said to be a direct competition to Toyota Yaris, one of the most famous Hatchbacks in Malaysia.

Toyota Harrier 2021

The all new Toyota Harrier has been revealed in Japan in June this year and is said to be available throughout Asia including Malaysia in 2021. Being the 4th generation Harrier, this car gains a fresh front fascia with sharp LED headlights and taillights, where height has been lowered 30mm to compliment that as well as having an almost sloping roof design. This car is also powered by a four cylinder that produces 169hp and 207nm (153lb-ft) of torque, with power sent to the front wheels only, but AWD is optional.

Volkswagen Golf GTi 2021

Volkswagen Malaysia might launch 3 different car models next year, but the one that has got all of us excited is the 8th Generation Volkswagen Golf GTi. For the very first time, this car will be assembled locally and will have a sticker in its front mirror that says, “Assembled and Inspected by Hicom”. Since it is assembled here, the price of this iconic German car would be much cheaper compared to the others in this line. While its general shape remains the same, the new GTI comes packed full of new technologies, greater overall refinement, and more power under its hood than ever.

Toyota Corolla Cross 2021

The all new Toyota Corolla Cross made its first global debut in Thailand back in July, and Malaysians cannot wait for this car to be released in Malaysia next year. This car is developed based on the concept of “Corolla Meets SUV” and despite having Corolla as part of its name, this SUV has truly little in common with the sedan in terms of exterior styling. We only get to see some parts of the Corolla as the SUV’s dashboard, centre stack and centre console are pretty much identical to its sedan sibling. Toyota says the Corolla Cross offers ample interior space for up to five passengers and up to 487 litres of space with a puncture repair kit (440 litres with a temporary spare tyre). This car will be available in 4 variants – 1.8 Sport, Hybrid Smart, Hybrid Premium and Hybrid Premium Safety.

Some of the other upcoming cars that will be releasing in 2021 include:

  • BMW 5 Series 2021
  • Honda Civic 2021
  • Lexus LS 2021
  • Mazda CX-9 2021
  • Mazda MX-30 2021
  • Nissan Kicks 2021
