Volkswagen Tiguan Overview

The Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace is a premium seven-seater sports utility vehicle (SUV) from Volkswagen. It replaces the regular Volkswagen Tiguan which is the five-seater version so Malaysian buyers can now only get the Tiguan Allspace. The Tiguan Allspace competes against SUVs like the Nissan X-Trail, Peugeot 5008, and Kia Sorento.

There are two variants of the Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace available in Malaysia. They are the Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace 1.4TSI Highline and the 2.0TSI R-Line.

The price of a new Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace in Malaysia starts from RM165,030.75 for the 1.4TSI Highline and RM209,637.39 for the 2.0TSI R-Line.

Colors Available

There are five colors available on the Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace in Malaysia. They are Blue Silk, Platinum Grey, Pyrite Silver, Pure White, and Deep Black.

Volkswagen Tiguan Basic Features

Interior

The Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace has a comfortable cabin with a long list of equipment. Decorative features include “Dark Grid” inserts for the dashboard and front door trim panels, LED ambient lighting, and illuminated aluminum scuff plates. It also has “Vienna” leather seat upholstery and a leather-wrapped steering wheel with paddle shifters.

For the driver, there is a start and stop button with keyless entry, auto-dimming rearview mirror, adjustable front driver’s center armrest with storage, electromechanical parking brake with auto hold, a 12-way electric adjustable driver seat with memory function, electromechanical speed-sensitive power steering, and a rearview camera. Other features include folding tables on the back of the front seats, a 3-zone Clomatronic air conditioning with rear air vents and controls, as well as an open and close switch for the electric tailgate

Exterior

The Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace has LED lighting all-around. It has LED headlamps with dynamic headlight range control, LED taillights with 3D effect, LED daytime running lights (DRLs), chrome roof rails, electrically folding and adjustable exterior mirrors with contrasting silver housing, exterior chrome package, rain sensors and automatic wipers, as well as 18-inch “Nizza” alloy wheels.

The R-Line variant has additional features with R-Line aesthetic elements including R-Line bumpers and sill extensions, black rear spoiler, twin exhaust tailpipes, and 19-inch “Sebring” alloy wheels. Other exclusive R-Line features are automatic headlight activation with “Leaving Home” and manual “Coming Home” function, as well as a headlamp washer system.

Cabin Space

Both variants of the Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace have similar dimensions measuring 4,701 mm long, 1,839 mm wide, and 1,674 mm tall. Its boot can hold 230-liters with the third-row seats up, 700-liters with the third row folded down, and 1,775-liters with all the rear seats folded down.

Infotainment system

The infotainment on the Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace is controlled on an 8-inch touchscreen system which has the Volkswagen Digital Cockpit interface, radio, three standard USB ports, USB-C charging ports, voice control, Bluetooth, and App-Connect which includes wired Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. Audio is piped in to the cabin with an 8-speaker sound system.

Additional features on the Tiguan R-Line variant are wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, navigation with 3D view, a 9.2-inch radio touchscreen with gesture control, as well as USB-C data and charging ports.

Volkswagen Tiguan Driving Performance 

The Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace Highline is powered by a 1.4 L turbocharged TSI engine mated to a 6-speed Direct Shift Gearbox (DSG). It produces a max power of 150 PS from 5,000 to 6,000 rpm and a max torque of 250 Nm from 1,500 to 3,500 rpm. The Highline variant has a fuel consumption of 7.3 L/100 km and can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 9.5 seconds. 

On the other hand, the Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace R-Line is powered by a 2.0 L turbocharged TSI engine mated to a 7-speed Direct Shift Gearbox (DSG). It produces a max power of 220 PS from 4,500 to 6,200 rpm and a max torque of 350 Nm from 1,500 to 4,400 rpm. The R-Line variant has a fuel consumption of 8.7 L/100 km and can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.4 seconds.

Volkswagen Tiguan Safety Features

The Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace is well equipped with safety features. It has six airbags, Anti-lock Brake System (ABS) with Brake Assist (BA), Electronic Stability Control (ESC), ISOFIX anchor, Engine Drag Torque Control (EDTC), Traction Control, Electronic Differential Lock (EDL), and Multi-collision brake system. It also has an anti-theft alarm system with immobilizer, interior monitoring and towing protection, as well as a Driver Alert System.

The R-Line variant gets additional features which are the 4MOTION all-wheel drive (AWD) system, Dynamic Chassis Control, Driving Mode Selection, and Hill Descent Control.

With its extensive feature list and reasonable price, the Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace is a great seven-seater SUV. Even the base Highline variant is a good option as it has everything that most buyers need. However, buyers looking for the original five-seater Tiguan should note that they can only get it pre-owned on the secondary market.
