The Volkswagen Golf is a sporty hatchback that is also one of the best-selling cars globally thanks to its versatility and performance. It was introduced in 1974 and is currently in its eighth generation. Some competitors of the Volkswagen Golf include the Mazda 3 hatchback, Hyundai i30 N, and Honda Civic Type R.
Variants
There are three variants of the Volkswagen Golf in Malaysia. They are the base model Volkswagen Golf R-Line 1.4TSI, Volkswagen Golf GTI 2.0TSI, and Volkswagen Golf R 2.0TSI.
Pricing
The price of a new Volkswagen Golf in Malaysia starts from RM155,000 for the Golf R-Line, RM211,689 for the Golf GTI, and RM356,412 for the Golf R.
Colors Available
There are five colors available on the Volkswagen Golf R-Line and GTI. They are Moonstone Grey, Oryx White, Atlantic Blue, Kings Red, and Deep Black. The Golf R, however, is only available in three colors which are Lapiz Blue, Pure White, and Deep Black.
Interior
All variants of the Volkswagen Golf have a sporty interior with dedicated styling elements. Interior features of the Volkswagen Golf include a leather-wrapped steering wheel with touch-sensitive controls, LED front footwell illumination, front and rear reading lights, and illuminated vanity mirrors. It also has a 12V socket in the center console and luggage compartment, and USB charging ports. While the Golf R-Line has manual height and lumbar adjustment on the driver seat, the Golf GTI and R variants have electric driver seats with lumbar adjustment. The Golf GTI has additional Active Climate ventilated front seats.
Exterior
The Volkswagen Golf has a modern and sporty exterior styling with simple curves and lines. It also has full LED lighting which includes LED headlights with cornering and all-weather lights, LED taillights with dynamic indicators, LED illuminated strip between the headlights, front and rear door handles recess lighting, daytime running lights (DRLs), and an integrated rear roof spoiler. Each variant also has its own styling pack which gives it a unique look.
Cabin Space
The Volkswagen Golf R-Line measures 4,287 mm long, 1,789 mm wide, and 1,456 mm tall. The Golf GTI measures 4,287 mm long, 1,789 mm wide, and 1,444 mm tall. Lastly, the Golf R measures 4,290 mm long, 1,789 mm wide, and 1,458 mm tall. The boot on the Volkswagen Golf has a capacity of 381 liters which is expandable by folding down the rear seats.
Infotainment system
The Volkswagen Golf has a 10-inch Discover Media touchscreen infotainment system that supports navigation, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, USB, and Bluetooth connectivity. While the R-Line and GTI variants have seven speakers, the range-topping Golf R has a premium 480W Harman Kardon 10-speaker sound system.
Each variant of the Volkswagen Golf has its own engine with varying performance figures. For starters, the engine in the Golf R-Line is a 1.4TSI turbocharged four-cylinder engine producing 150 PS of power and 250 Nm of torque, which results in a 216 km/h top speed. It’s paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission.
The Golf GTI is powered by a 2.0TSI turbocharged four-cylinder engine producing 245 PS of power and 370 Nm of torque. It’s paired with a seven-speed Direct-Shift Gearbox (DSG). Finally, the Golf R has the same 2.0TSI engine as the GTI but it is tuned to produce 320 PS of power and 400 Nm of torque. It’s also paired with a seven-speed DSG. The Golf R is the only variant equipped with Volkswagen’s 4MOTION all-wheel-drive system. Both the Golf GTI and Golf R have a top speed of 250 km/h.
The Volkswagen Golf is equipped with six airbags, Automatic Post-Collision Braking System, an anti-theft alarm system with interior monitoring, a backup horn, and towing protection.
