Toyota & Vios Edit
The Toyota Vios is one of the best-selling B-segment sedans in Malaysia, and for good reason. Besides the trusted reliability one would expect from a Toyota, the affordable price of the Toyota Vios is also one of its selling points. The Vios competes against other cars like the Honda City and Nissan Almera.
Toyota Vios Variants
There are three variants of the Toyota Vios sold in Malaysia. They are the Vios 1.5G, 1.5E, and 1.5J.
Toyota Vios Pricing
The price of a new Toyota Vios in Malaysia starts from RM74,623 for the 1.5J, RM82,593 for the 1.5E, and RM87,584 for the 1.5G.
There are five colors available on the Toyota Vios; Orange Metallic, Platinum White Pearl, Dark Blue Metallic, Red Mica Metallic, and Silver Metallic.
The Toyota Vios has a smart entry and push start system, a black interior color, an Optitron meter panel with a 4.2-inch multi-information display (MID), auto air conditioning, blue front foot illumination, two USB charging ports, power windows with jam protection at the driver’s side, a drive mode switch with Sport and Eco modes, as well as illuminated scuff plates. The base 1.5J variant has a urethane steering wheel and shift lever knob while the 1.5E and 1.5G variants have them in leather with the steering wheel having audio, MID, and Bluetooth switches. The range-topping 1.5G variant has perforated black leather seats and a leather center console box while the 1.5J and 1.5E have fabric seats and a fabric center console box. Additionally, the 1.5G has paddle shifters.
Lighting on the Toyota Vios is handled by LEDs all around except the rear fog lights which use bulbs. It has manual LED headlights with follow-me-home function, LED rear combi lights, LED daytime running lights, and LED front fog lights. It also has auto-fold and retractable wing mirrors with side turn indicators, chrome-plated outer door handles, as well as acoustic windshield glass.
The Toyota Vios measures 4,420 mm long, 1,730 mm wide, and 1,475 mm tall. It has a boot space of 506-liters which is among the largest in the segment. While the base model Vios 1.5J doesn’t have foldable rear seats, the 1.5E and 1.5G variants do have 60:40 split foldable seats for increased cargo capacity.
The Toyota Vios sports a 7-inch touch screen display audio system. Along with radio and MP3, it supports Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, USB, AUX, and Bluetooth connectivity.
The engine on the Toyota Vios is the 2NR-FE, 1.5L 4-cylinder DOHC with Dual Variable Valve Timing with intelligence (VVT-i). It produces a max power of 107 PS at 6,000 rpm and max torque of 140 Nm at 4,200 rpm. All variants have a continuously variable transmission (CVT) with a 7-speed Sport Sequential Shiftmatic mode. The Vios is rather economical with a fuel consumption of 5.8 L/100 km but it’s still able to make the 0 to 100 km/h sprint in 8.1 seconds.
For its price, the Toyota Vios offers a good safety package. Standard safety features available on all variants are Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) with Emergency Brake Distribution (EBD) and Brake Assist (BA), Vehicle Stability Control (VSC), Traction Control (TRC), Hill-start Assist Control (HAC), Emergency Stop Signal (ESS), rear parking sensors, and auto door lock.
Other standard passive safety features are seven SRS airbags, ISOFIX, Whiplash Injury Lessening (WIL) front seats, impact-absorbing body structure, head and side impact protection structure, as well as 3-point Emergency Locking Retractor (ELR) seat belts with pretensioner and force limiter. Additional active features that are only available on the Toyota Vios 1.5G and 1.5E are Pre-collision System (PCS), Lane Departure Alert (LDA), 3D Panoramic View Monitor (PVM), Blind Sport Monitor (BSM) with Rear Cross-Traffic Alert (RCTA), a Front Digital Video Recorder (DVR), and Vehicle Telematics System (VTS).
The Toyota Vios started out as a basic yet reliable B-segment sedan. Now that it’s been updated with the latest safety features, better ride comfort, and impressively, seven airbags, the Vios is looking to be a top contender in the segment, especially as a family car.
