Toyota & Fortuner Edit
The Toyota Fortuner is a seven-seater sports utility vehicle (SUV) from Toyota that was launched in Malaysia in 2005. It sits on Toyota’s Innovative International Multi-purpose Vehicle (IMV) platform which uses a ladder frame chassis construction, making it a proper SUV that can handle heavy cargo and rough terrains.
There are three variants of the Toyota Fortuner in Malaysia with all having four-wheel drive (4WD) or 4x4 as labeled by Toyota. The variants are the Toyota Fortuner 2.4 AT 4x4, 2.7 SRZ AT 4x4, and 2.8 VRZ AT 4x4.
The price of a new Toyota Fortuner in Malaysia starts from RM179,880 for the Fortuner 2.4, RM186,880 for the Fortuner 2.7 SRZ, and RM220,880 for the Fortuner 2.8 VRZ.
There are six color choices available on the Toyota Fortuner. They are Medium Silver Metallic, Silver Metallic, Attitude Black Mica, Phantom Brown Metallic, Super White II, and Bronze Mica Metallic. The range-topping 2.8 VRZ is also available with a two-tone paint job with the body in either Bronze Mica Metallic or Super White II and the roof in black.
The Toyota Fortuner has quite a refined and well-equipped interior with black and red trims. At the front, the Fortuner has an Optitron meter panel with illumination control and a 4.2-inch color TFT multi-information display (MID), a center console box, an electronic 4WD transfer dial, a storage glove box with cooler, smart entry and smart system, wireless charger, and front digital video recorder (DVR).
On the base 2.4 AT variant, there are fabric seats, manual front driver and passenger seats, and a regular tilt and telescopic adjustable steering wheel with audio, MID, and Bluetooth hands-free switches. The 2.7 SRZ and 2.8 VRZ variants instead get leather seats that are eight-way power-adjustable at the front and leather-wrapped steering wheels. The steering wheel on the 2.7 SRZ variant has an additional cruise control switch, while the 2.8 VRZ variant has additional adaptive cruise control and lane departure alert switches.
The Toyota Fortuner also has auto up/down power windows with jamp protection for all windows, front dual-zone automatic climate control with automatic rear air-conditioning, a USB charging port, 12-volt accessory power outlets, an illuminated entry system, and a drive mode selector with Normal, Eco, and Sport modes.
The Toyota Fortuner has a sleek and sporty exterior styling with LED lights all around. The 2.4 AT and 2.7 SRZ variants get automatic Bi-LED projector headlamps with Follow Me Home Function while the 2.8 VRZ gets automatic Quad-LED with Follow Me Home Function. The Fortuner also has LED daytime running lights (DRLs), LED front fog lamps, and halogen rear fog lamps, as well as LED rear combination lamps.
It also has intermittent, time-adjustable front wipers and standard intermittent rear wipers. The wing mirrors on the Fortuner are power-adjustable, retractable, and equipped with LED turn signal lamps. On the 2.7 SRZ and 2.8 VRZ, the wing mirrors get an additional puddle lamp.
The Toyota Fortuner is large and spacious measuring 4,705 mm long, 1,855 mm wide, and 1,835 mm tall. It has a boot space of 200 liters with all the seats up and up to 1080 liters with the second and third-row seats folded down. Being a large SUV, the Fortuner has a minimum turning radius of 5.8 meters.
The infotainment system on the Fortuner is controlled on a 9-inch capacitive touch screen display. It supports Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth, and USB connectivity. The screen also displays the view from the reverse camera when reversing. Audio is piped into the cabin through six speakers.
The Toyota Fortuner has three available options that buyers can choose. The base 2.4 AT variant is powered by a 2.4-liter four-cylinder diesel engine producing 150 PS of max power at 3,400 rpm and 400 Nm of max torque from 1,600 to 2,000 rpm. The 2.7 SRZ variant has a 2.7-liter four-cylinder petrol engine producing 166 PS of max power at 5,200 rpm and 245 Nm of max torque at 4,000 rpm. Lastly, the 2.8 VRZ has a 2.8-liter four-cylinder diesel engine producing 204 PS of max power from 3,000 to 3,4000 rpm and 500 Nm of max torque from 1,600 to 2,800 rpm. All engines are mated to a six-speed automatic transmission with a sequential shifter. All variants also get a part-time 4WD drivetrain with Automatic Disconnecting Differential (ADD)
The Toyota Fortuner is well-equipped in the safety department. Safety features shared by all variants include Anti-lock Brake System (ABS), Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD), Brake Assist (BA), Vehicle Stability Control (VSC), Hill-start Assist Control (HAC), Active Traction Control (A-TRC), front and rear parking sensors, seven airbags, as well as ISOFIX on the second-row. Additional safety features only available on the 2.8 VRZ variant are Pre-collision System (PCS), Lane Departure Alert (LDA), and Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (DRCC). Panoramic View Monitor (PVM) is standard on the 2.7 SRZ and 2.8 VRZ variants but is also available as an option on the 2.4 AT variant.
The Toyota Fortuner is a versatile SUV that is comfortable enough for city roads yet is also able to handle off-road driving. With all its features and high levels of refinement, the Fortuner is a great SUV for its price.
