Proton & Exora Edit

Proton Exora Overview

The Proton Exora is a seven-seater multi-purpose vehicle (MPV). Released in 2009, it was the first Malaysian MPV in a segment monopolized by foreign MPVs like the Toyota Avanza. In 2011, the Proton Exora received a turbo Campro engine making it the first Proton vehicle to be turbocharged. With its practicality and affordable price range compared to its competitors, it was consistently among the best-selling vehicles in Malaysia.

Proton Exora Basic Features

Interior

Although the Proton Exora is a dated vehicle, it has plenty of features to keep its passengers comfortable. The Executive variant has a urethane steering wheel with tilt adjustment, fabric seats, and a sun visor with a vanity mirror for the front passenger. The Premium and Black Edition variants have a leather steering wheel with tilt adjustment as well as audio and hands-free telephone controls. They also have cruise control, a front-row armrest, as well as a sun visor with a vanity mirror for the driver and front passenger. Unique on the Premium variant are semi-leatherette seats, while the Black Edition has fully leatherette seats.

Features shared by all variants are a segmented LCD multi-info display, 2nd and 3rd-row air conditioning vents, driver seat height adjuster, 2nd-row seat armrests, N95 cabin filter, as well as 10 bottle and cup holders.

Exterior

The Proton Exora still uses halogen lights on its exterior including headlamps, daytime running lights (DRLs), and rear fog lamp (Premium variant only). The Executive variant has manual fold door mirrors with turn signals while the door mirrors on the Premium and Black Edition are electrically-foldable. Additionally, the Premium and Black Edition have side skirtings, a rear spoiler, black rear garnish, and a black roof top.

Cabin Space

With its large size and passenger-focused interior features, the Exora is a comfortable place to be in even on long road trips. It measures 4,610 mm long, 1,809 mm wide, and 1,691 mm tall. Its boot space with the 3rd-row seats up is only 132-liters. However, users can fold the 3rd-row 50:50 seats, as well as the 2nd-row 60:40 seats with fold and tumble to increase the cargo space.

Infotainment system

The Proton Exora has a basic infotainment system, which is reflective of its age. All variants have fours speakers, two USB ports, and a 12 V power socket. The Executive variant has a 7-inch touch screen display with Bluetooth connectivity. The Premium and Black Edition, however, have voice command, online navigation, online music streaming, weather forecast, smartphone connectivity, as well as 4G and Wifi. The Black Edition has an additional overhead monitor that passengers can watch their favorite shows on.

Proton Exora Driving Performance

The Proton Exora has a turbocharged 1.6L 4-cylinder engine with Variable Valve Timing (VVT) that sends power to a continuously variable transmission (CVT). It produces a max power of 140 PS at 5,000 rpm and a max torque of 205 Nm at 2,000 to 4,000 rpm. It has a fuel tank capacity of 55-liters and a fuel consumption of 9.78 L/100 km. It also accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 11.3 seconds.

Proton Exora Safety Features

The Proton Exora’s age is also reflected in its safety features which are limited compared to its competitors. The Exora has front SRS airbags, Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Brake Distribution (EBD), front seat belts with pretensioners and load limiters, rear parking sensors, as well as an immobilizer with an anti-theft alarm. The Premium and Black Edition have additional features which are Electronic Stability Control (ESC) and a reverse camera.

Although the Proton Exora is already over 12 years old, it still offers great value for money considering that it’s cheaper than its competitors. It offers a decent amount of interior features but is lacking in advanced safety features that other manufacturers are offering.
