Nissan & Navara Edit
The Nissan Navara is a versatile workhorse that has been in Malaysia since 2008. Designed as a workhorse, it can haul heavy cargo both in the city and off road, though it’s not meant for heavy off-road use. It goes against the segment leader Toyota Hilux and other trucks like the Mitsubishi Triton and Isuzu D-Max.
Nissan Navara Variants
There are six variants of the Nissan Navara in Malaysia with all being powered by a 2.5 L 4-cylinder DOHC Intercooler Turbo-diesel engine. There’s one single cab variant that’s called the Nissan Navara 2.5L Single Cab with manual transmission and five dual-cab variants. The dual-cab variants are the Nissan Navara 2.5L SE M/T (manual transmission), SE A/T (automatic transmission), V A/T, VL A/T, and Pro-4X A/T.
Nissan Navara Pricing
The price of a new Nissan Navara in Malaysia starts from RM91,900 for the Single Cab, RM110,900 for the SE M/T, RM116,900 for the SE A/T, RM125,500 for the V A/T, RM137,900 for the VL A/T, and RM142,200 for the range-topping Pro-4X A/T.
There are several colors that only certain variants of the Nissan Navara get. The Single Cab is only available in Solid White, while the Pro-4X is available in Stealth Grey, Pearl White, Burning Red, and Black Star. The SE, V, and VL variants are available in Brilliant Silver and Black Star while Burning Red is only on the V and VL variants.
The interior trim of the Nissan Navara in Malaysia differs according to the variants. The lower variants (Single Cab, SE M/T, and SE A/T) have a urethane steering wheel with audio and hands-free phone control while the V, VL, and Pro-4X have a leather steering wheel with audio, display, hands-free phone, voice recognition, and cruise control switches.
The Single Cab and SE variants also have a standard analog multi-info display, manual air conditioning, and a manual rear-view mirror whereas the V, VL, and Pro-4X variants come with a 7-inch full-color semi-digital multi-info display, auto-dimming rear-view mirror, dual-zone climate control, and cruise control. Also, all dual-cab models have a rear bench seat with a flip-up cushion.
In terms of lighting, the V, VL, and Pro-4X variants have Quad-LED Projector Headlamps with LED Signature Daytime Running Lights (DRLs), LED taillamps, and LED front fog lamps while the Single Cab and SE variants have regular halogen headlights without fog lamps or DRLs, and bulb taillights. The Pro-4X and VL have powered adjustment and auto folding side mirrors with camera and turn signals while the V and SE mirrors are not auto-folding. The Single Cab side mirrors, however, are only power-adjustable with manual folding.
In terms of body trim, the Nissan Navara Single Cab has a body-colored front bumper and a black front grille while the SE, V, and VL variants have body-colored bumpers with silver accents and a chrome front grille. The Pro-4X has a sportier styling with body-colored bumpers with orange accents, black-painted front grille, roof rail, and over fender.
Different variants also have varying wiper features with the Pro-4X and VL variants having rain-sensing front variable intermittent wipers while the rest are equipped with speed sensing wipers. All variants except the Single Cab have a bed liner and tailgate assist while The Pro-4X variant is the only one with a Utili-Track Channel System that makes it easier to secure cargo of various sizes.
The Nissan Navara Single Cab measures 5,335 mm long, 1,790 mm wide, and 1,775 mm tall. The SE and VL variants measure 5,260 mm long, 1,850 mm wide, and 1,825 mm tall while the VL variant is taller at 1,860 mm. Lastly, the Pro-4X measures 5,260 mm long, 1,875 mm wide, and 1,855 mm tall. The Nissan Navara can haul up to 3,500 kg which is enough for a horsebox, caravan or pretty much anything else you care to mention. This is on par with many rivals and better than the Ford Ranger.
The Nissan Navara 2.5L has a basic infotainment system seeing that its designed more as a workhorse. That said, the V, VL, and Pro-4X variants have an 8-inch touchscreen display system with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and six speakers. The Single Cab and SE variants have a standard, wide 2-DIN system with AM/FM and Bluetooth hands-free support. The Single Cab comes with only two spears while the two SE variants have four speakers. All variants also have a USB and 12V accessory socket.
All Nissan Navara 2.5L variants are powered by a 2.5L 4-cylinder DOHC Intercooler Turbo-diesel engine although the Single Cab and SE M/T variants are tuned for lower power and torque. The SE A/T, V, VL, and Pro-4X variants produce a max power of 190 PS at 3,600 rpm and max torque of 450 Nm at 2,000 rpm.
The Single Cab and SE M/T put out a max power of 163 PS at 3,600 rpm and max torque of 403 Nm at 2,000 rpm. While the Single Can and SE M/T have a 6-speed manual gearbox, the rest have an automatic one. With a fuel economy of 8.4 L/100 km, the Nissan Navara has a driving range of up to 950 km on a fully-filled 80-liter fuel tank.
The Nissan Navara 2.5L is equipped with the Nissan Intelligent Mobility (NIM) which is Nissan’s Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) and Nissan Safety Shield 360 which comprises a set of standard safety features.
NIM is only available on the V, VL, and Pro-4X variants. This Safety Suite includes Intelligent Predictive Forward Collision Warning and Emergency Braking, Intelligent Driver Alertness, Intelligent Around View Monitor with Off-Road Mode, and Intelligent Moving Object Detection. Additional features only found on the VL and Pro-4X variants are Blind Spot Warning (BSW), Lane Departure Warning (LDW), Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA), and High Beam Assist (HBA).
The Nissan Safety Shield 360 includes the standard safety features you’d expect in a modern car including Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD), Brake Assist (BA), Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC), Traction Control (TC), Active Brake Limited Slip (ABLS), and Hill Start Assist (HSA). Features available on all variants except the Single Cab are the Electronic Locking Rear Differential, Hill Descent Control (HDC), and Trailer Sway Assist (TSA). The Single Cab, SE A/T, and SE M/T have only two SRS airbags while the rest have six. A full-size spare tire is standard on all variants.
With six variants to choose from, the Nissan Navara 2.5L has no shortage of options. Although its interior features are somewhat basic compared to its competitors, it has the essential functions that make it a good workhorse. Its performance, cargo capacity, and safety features make it a sound choice for users who want a reliable and comfortable pickup truck to drive daily.
