Ford & Ranger Edit
The Ford Ranger is an iconic pickup truck. Although it’s not as ubiquitous on Malaysian roads as its Japanese competitors, it still has a sizeable fanbase thanks to its aggressive, modern styling, plush interior, and generous kit offering. It goes up against other pickup trucks such as the Toyota Hilux, Nissan Navara, and Mitsubishi Triton.
The Ford Ranger was refreshed for 2022. In Malaysia, Sime Darby Auto ConneXion (SDAC) is currently offering the Ford Ranger in six variants which are the Ford Ranger 2.0 XL MT (manual transmission), XL AT (automatic transmission), XLT MT, XLT AT, as well as the XLT Plus and Wildtrak which are only available as automatics.
The prices of a new Ford Ranger are listed below.
Ford Ranger XL MT: RM108,888
Ford Ranger XL AT: RM113,888
Ford Ranger XLT MT: RM124,888
Ford Ranger XLT AT: RM129,888
Ford Ranger XLT Plus: RM142,888
Ford Ranger WildTrak: RM168,888
Overall, there are seven colors available on the Ford Ranger. Four colors that are available on all variants are Absolute Black, Meteor Grey, Aluminium Metallic, and Arctic White. However, Aluminium Metallic is not available on the WildTrak variant.
Besides the four basic colors, the XLT variant can also be had in Lighting Blue. The XLT Plus variant, on the other hand, is also available in Lightning Blue and Sedona Orange. Meanwhile, the WildTrak variant is also available in Sedona Orange and Luxe Yellow.
The Ford Ranger has a modern interior that is ahead of its competitors. For starters, it has an eight-inch digital instrument cluster, retractable cupholders, storage compartments under the rear seats, an electric parking brake, a four-spoke leather-wrapped steering wheel with control switches, and dual-zone climate control with rear air conditioning vents.
It also has an auto-dimming rearview mirror, a leather-wrapped gear shift knob, one-touch up/down power windows for the driver and front passenger, Qi wireless charger in the front, and multiple drive modes. While the lower three variants get fabric seats, the Ford Ranger WildTrak gets full leather ones.
On the exterior, the Ford Ranger has a modern, muscular styling with practical features that make it a great pickup truck. Styling-wise, it has signature “C-clamp” headlamps and a bold front grille. The WildTrak variant gets matrix headlamps with auto high beam and auto leveling, while the XLT and XLT Plus variants get LED headlamps with manual leveling. The base XL variants only get halogen manual leveling headlamps.
Other features include front and rear fog lamps, daytime running lights (DRLs), a sports bar, bedliner, six cargo box hooks point, front recovery hooks, side steps, and a rear step bumper to make for easy loading and unloading of the cargo bed. Besides the XL variants, all other variants get a powered, easy lift tailgate.
For 2022, the Ford Ranger has a wider track and a longer wheelbase with both having increased by 50mm. Overall, the Ford Ranger measures 5,370 mm long, 1,918 mm wide, and 1,884 mm tall. It also has a 3,270 mm wheelbase and a wider cargo bed that measures 1,564 mm long, 1,584 mm wide, and 540 mm tall.
The Ford Ranger received a revamped infotainment system in the form of a portrait-oriented 12-inch touchscreen infotainment display on the WildTrak, while other variants get a 10.1-inch touchscreen display. All variants get the Ford SYNC 4 operating system with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth, and voice recognition. The WildTrak has six speakers while other variants have four.
All variants of the Ford Ranger are powered by a 2.0-liter EcoBlue four-cylinder turbodiesel engine available in either a single or bi-turbo configuration. The Ford Ranger XL and XLT variants get the single-turbo engine which puts out 170 PS of max power at 3,500 rpm and 405 Nm from 1,750 to 2,500 rpm. This engine configuration can be paired with either a six-speed manual or six-speed automatic transmission with SelectShift.
The bi-turbo engine on the XLT Plus and WildTrak variants produces 210 PS of max power at 3,750 rpm and 500 Nm from 1,750 to 2,000 rpm. This engine configuration is only availabe with a 10-speed automatic transmission with SelectShift. The Ranger’s 4x4 wheel drive has an Electronic Shift-On-The-Fly (ESOF) Shift System, which allows drivers to easily shift between high and low four-wheel drive, and two-wheel drive.
The Ford Ranger, especially the range-topping WildTrak variant is well-equipped when it comes to safety. Standard safety features available on all variants include Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD), Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Traction Control System (TCS), Brake Assist (BA), Hill Descent Control (HDC), Hill Launch Assist (HLA), Rollover Mitigation (ROM), Trailer Sway Control (TSC), and ISOFIX with top tether.

With the number of Ford Ranger variants available in Malaysia, there’s a Ford Ranger to suit every buyer’s needs. Its impressive styling and amount of kit also make it a unique and value-for-money alternative to its Japanese rivals.
