Ford & Fiesta Edit

Ford Fiesta Overview

The Ford Fiesta is a compact B-segment hatchback with sporty looks and Ford’s iconic ride and handling. First introduced in Malaysia in 2010, the Fiesta Mk 6 received a facelift in 2014 and was initially available as a 5-door hatchback and 4-door sedan. However, the sedan was later dropped and only the 5-door hatchback continued being offered here. Also worth noting is the current generation Mark 7 Ford Fiesta is not offered in Malaysia due to the rising popularity of SUVs and sedans in the B-segment.

Ford Fiesta Basic Features

Interior

The interior of the Ford Fiesta was designed with practicality in mind though it does look dated now. The highlight of the interior is its anti allergy surfaces and Ford SYNC with voice activation that allows users to control the music as well as make and receive calls. The system can also read incoming text messages.

Other features include a keyless ignition system with push start button, electronic automatic temperature control, leather wrapped steering wheel and gear knob, shoe storage space under the front passenger, 4-way manually adjustable driver seat, 60:40 rear folding seats, and aesthetic lighting. The 1.5L Sport and 1.0L EcoBoost get partial leather and fabric seats while the 1.5L Titanium gets full leather seats.

Exterior

On the exterior, the Ford Fiesta gets an Aston Martin inspired trapezoidal black front grille with chrome surround, body-colored door handles, automatic twin chamber halogen reflector headlamps with home safe lighting, and front and rear fog lights. It also has smart features like a Rear Parking Aid with Park Pilot, automatic wiper system, a capless fuel system, and Smart Regenerative Charging that recharges the battery during braking.

Cabin Space

The cabin of the Ford Fiesta is decent considering its a compact hatchback, though the back seat may be too small to comfortably fit three adults at a time. The Ford Fiesta hatchback measures 3,982 mm long, 1,722 mm wide, and 1,489 mm tall, while the sedan is longer at 4,323 mm. The boot space on the hatchback is decent at 311-liters, while the sedan has a larger 471-liter boot. Space in both body types is expandable with the 60:40 folding rear seats.

Infotainment system

The infotainment system in the Fiesta features a multi-info center display that’s controlled with numerous buttons on the center console. The system supports Bluetooth and Ford SYNC with voice activation. It also has a CD player, USB port, and AUX port. Music is played on six speakers which is more than most rivals in the segment.

Ford Fiesta Driving Performance

The 1.5L 4-cylinder Ti-VCT DOHC engine found on the 1.5L Sport and Titanium produces a maximum of 112 PS (82 kW) at 6,300 rpm and a maximum torque of 140 NM (14 kg-m) at 4,400. The 1.0L 3-cylinder GTDI EcoBoost engine on the other hand produces a maximum power of 125 PS (92 kW) at 6,000 and a maximum torque of 170 Nm (17 kg-m) at 4,500 rpm. Both Ford Fiesta engines also have impressive fuel economy with the 1.5L engine coming in at 5.7 L/100km and the 1.0L EcoBoost engine achieving a class leading 5.3 L/100km fuel economy.

Ford Fiesta Safety Features

Compared to its rivals, the Ford Fiesta has basic safety features such as Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS), Electronic Brake Force Distribution (EBD), Emergency Brake Assist (EBA), Hill Launch Assist (HLA), ISOFIX, Electronic Stability Program (ESP), and Passive Anti Theft Alarm System (PATS) with immobilizer. The 1.5L variants get only two driver and passenger airbags while the 1.0L EcoBoost gets additional side, curtain, and knee airbags.

Despite its age, the Ford Fiesta is a good B-segment car, especially in terms of ride and handling. The 1.0L EcoBoost variant with its turbocharged engine is powerful, lightweight, and fuel-efficient making it a great fit for drivers who want a car that drives well yet friendly on the wallet.
