Toyota Sienta Overview

The Toyota Sienta is a compact seven-seater multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) that was launched in Malaysia in 2016. With its quirky styling and spacious interior, it was designed to be a youthful and practical MPV. The Sienta was sold in Malaysia as a fully imported completely built-up (CBU) unit and was only sold in the Malaysian market till 2019.

Variants

There are two variants of the Toyota Sienta sold in Malaysia. They are the Toyota Sienta 1.5G and 1.5V.

Pricing

Being a CBU unit imported from Indonesia, the price of a Toyota Sienta in Malaysia is higher than comparable MPVs such as the Perodua Alza. The price of the base variant 1.5G Sienta started from RM92,900 while the 1.5V variant started from RM99,900.

Colors Available

The Toyota Sienta was offered in six colors in Malaysia. They are Silver Metallic, Grey Metallic, Attitude Black, Orange Metallic, Quartz Brown Metallic, and Super White II.

Toyota Sienta Basic Features

Interior

Some of the quirky designs from the Toyota Sienta’s exterior can be found in its interior. For example, it has an elevated instrument panel, a curvy dashboard, and cupholders integrated into the dash. That said, the Sienta has an intelligently designed interior that is spacious and practical. It has fabric upholstery, power sliding doors with soft-close function for the rear passengers, a leather-wrapped steering wheel with hands-free audio switches, a digital video recorder (DVR), and a one-touch tumble seat folding mechanism for the rear seats.

Exterior

The Toyota Sienta has a quirky exterior design with a curvaceous body inspired by trekking shoes. The base 1.5G variant has halogen headlights, standard LED taillights, and 15-inch alloy wheels, while the 1.5V variant gets bi-LED headlights with LED positioning lights, LED taillights with light guides, and 16-inch alloy wheels. Both variants also have LED daytime running lights (DRLs)

Cabin Space

The Toyota Sienta has among the smallest dimensions in the compact MPV segment but it somehow manages to retain a decently spacious interior. The Sienta measures 4,235 mm long, 1,695 mm wide, and 1,695 mm tall. While its boot is small with the seats folded up, it can hold 575 liters of cargo with the third-row seats folded down.

Infotainment system

The Toyota Sienta 1.5G only gets a standard 2-DIN head unit with Bluetooth connectivity while the 1.5V variant gets a 6.8-inch touchscreen infotainment system.

Toyota Sienta Driving Performance

The Toyota Sienta is powered by Toyota’s trusty 2NR-FE 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine also found in the Toyota Vios. It produces 107 PS of max power at 6,000 rpm and 140 Nm of max torque at 4,200 rpm. Power is delivered to the front wheels via a continuously variable transmission (CVT) with a seven-speed sport sequential shiftmatic mode.

Toyota Sienta Safety Features

Safety features on the Toyota Sienta include three airbags, Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Vehicle Stability Control (VSC), Traction Control System (TCS), Hill-start Assist Control (HAC), and ISOFIX on the second row. The Sienta also has a 5-Star ASEAN NCAP safety rating.

Compared to its competitors in Malaysia, the Toyota Sienta is pricier and has unconventional styling. However, with features such as power sliding doors and a comfortable interior, the Sienta makes for a great MPV for small families.
