Mazda CX-30 Overview

The Mazda CX-30 is a compact sports utility vehicle (SUV) that offers Mazda’s signature athletic styling and handling, as well as premium features. It sits in the same segment as the Honda HR-V, Toyota Corolla Cross, and Subaru XV but is priced higher than its competitors. Take a look below for what the Mazda CX-30 offers.

General Information

Variants

In Malaysia, the Mazda CX-30 is offered in four variants. The three two-wheel-drive (2WD) variants are the 2WD 2.0G Core, 2WD 2.0G High, and 2WD 1.8D High. The top variant is the all-wheel-drive (AWD) version 2.0G High.

Pricing

Since the Mazda CX-30 is currently only imported to Malaysia as completely built-up (CBU) units, it’s priced higher than most other SUVs in the segment. Pricing for a new Mazda CX-30 in Malaysia starts from RM144,000 for the 2WD 2.0G Core, RM158,000 for the 2WD 2.0G High, RM167,000 for the 2WD 1.8D High, and RM170,000 for the AWD 2.0G High variants.

Colors Available

The Mazda CX-30 is available in seven colors in Malaysia. They are Platinum Quartz, Deep Crystal Blue, Snowflake White Pearl, Jet Black, Machine Gray, Soul Red Crystal, and Polymetal Gray.

Like the rest of the Mazda CX-30’s interior, its infotainment system is simple and elegant. It uses a Mazda Connect infotainment system with an 8.8-inch display. The screen is controlled with the Commander Control which is a rotary knob located below the gear shift lever. This system supports Bluetooth, Android Auto, and Apple CarPlay and plays music through eight speakers.

Mazda CX-30 Driving Performance

The Mazda CX-30 2WD 2.0G Core and High, as well as the AWD 2.0G High variants employ the same 2.0-liter SkyActiv-G four-cylinder petrol engine that produces 164 PS of max power at 6,000 rpm and 213 Nm of max torque at 4,000 rpm with a top speed 196 km/h. Fuel consumption for the petrol engine is estimated at 6.4 L/100 km.

The 2WD 1.8D High variant is powered by a 1.8-liter SkyActive-D four-cylinder diesel engine that produces 115 PS of max power at 4,000 rpm and 270 Nm of max torque from 1,600 to 2,700 rpm with a top speed of 183 km/h. Fuel consumption for the diesel engine is estimated at 4.9 L/100 km. All variants have a SkyActive-Drive six-speed automatic transmission which is highly regarded as an engaging and reliable transmission by Mazda owners and car enthusiasts.

Mazda CX-30 Safety Features

The Mazda CX-30 also has an impressive safety suite including basic and advanced features. These include seven airbags (front, side, curtain, and driver’s knee airbags), Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Dynamic Stability Control (DSC), Electronic Brake-Force Distribution (EBD), Emergency Brake Assist (EBA), Traction Control System (TCS), Emergency Stop Signal (ESS), Hill Launch Assist, Walk Away Lock, and an Engine-Immobilizer Anti-Theft System.

Advanced safety technology in the Mazda CX-30 includes Adaptive Front-Lighting System (AFS), High Beam Control (HBC), Blind Spot Monitoring (BSM), Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA), Lane Departure Warning System (LDWS), Lane-Keep Assist System (LAS), Driver Attention Alert (DAA), Smart Brake Support (SBS), and Mazda Radar Cruise Control (MRCC).

Compared to its competitors, the Mazda CX-30 offers a more refined and sporty package. Also, its proven SkyActive platform and engine make it an SUV that’s engaging and lively. While the price of the Mazda CX-30 is quite steep in Malaysia, future CKD offerings should help bring it down making it an even better value proposition.
