The Mazda 6 is Mazda’s flagship D-segment car. It boasts the latest iteration of Mazda’s Kodo design language and is engineered for engaging driving dynamics. All Mazda 6 cars in Malaysia are CBU (Complete Built-Up) units imported from Japan.
Mazda 6 Variants
There are two variants of the Mazda 6 in Malaysia; the Mazda 6 sedan 2.0L and 2.5L models. Although Mazda also produces a wagon variant of the Mazda 6, it is not available in Malaysia.
Mazda 6 Pricing
The price of a new Mazda 6 in Malaysia starts from RM170,000 for the Mazda 6 2.0L sedan and RM206,000 for the Mazda 6 2.5L sedan.
There are seven colors available for the Mazda 6 in Malaysia; Soul Red Crystal, Machine Gray, Snowflake White Pearl, Deep Crystal Blue, Sonic Silver, Jet Black, and Polymetal Gray.
The Mazda 6 interior has a high build quality with plenty of soft-touch material. The leather steering wheel (tilt and telescopic) has paddle shifters, audio, Bluetooth hands-free, and cruise control switches. Additionally, there is an engine start/stop button, auto-dimming rearview mirror, Sport Mode drive selection switch, and a reverse camera with distance and width guide lines. The 2.5L variant gets an additional 360-degree view monitor with its camera.
Comfort features include dual-zone auto climate control with rear air conditioning vents and one-touch power windows with anti-pinch. The driver seat gets a 10-way power adjustment for tilt, lift, lumbar, slide, and recline with a 2-position memory function.
The Mazda 6 gets LED front headlights with auto on/off and auto-leveling function, LED daytime running lights (DRLs), and LED taillights. It also has rain-sensing variable intermittent windshield wipers, Mazda advanced keyless entry, and eight parking sensors; four at the front and four at the rear. The 2.5L variant gets an additional power sunroof with sliding and tilt glass.
The Mazda 6 measures 4,865 mm long, 1,840 mm wide, and 1,450 mm tall. It has a boot space of 480-liters which is more than sufficient for most families. However, the boot space is smaller than its main Japanese rivals in the segment.
It has an 8-inch Mazda Connect Infotainment System with Multi-Function Commander Control which is a control knob located below the shift stick, as well as Voice Command. It supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto for easy access to a connected smartphone’s contacts, music, and more. The infotainment system has an AM/FM tuner with an auxiliary audio input jack, a CD player, four USB ports (two at the front and two on the rear center armrest). Music is piped into the cabin through six speakers in the 2.0L variant. The 2.5L model, on the other hand, has an impressive 11-speaker BOSE® Sound System for your listening pleasure.
The Mazda 6 2.0L uses a 2.0L SKYACTIV-G engine that produces 162 PS of maximum power at 6,000 rpm and 213 Nm of maximum torque at 4,000 rpm. The Mazda 6 2.5L variant has a 2.5L SKYACTIV-G engine producing 192 PS of maximum horsepower at 6,000 rpm and 258 Nm of maximum torque at 4,000 rpm. Power is delivered through a SKYACTIV DRIVE 6-speed automatic transmission with manual shift mode. The fuel tank capacity of both variants is 62-liters while the fuel consumption is 8.5 L/100 km. The Mazda 6 can accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 8.1 seconds.
The Mazda 6 in Malaysia features advanced safety technology such as the Mazda i-Stop Idling Technology, and G-Vectoring Control Plus (GVC Plus). Features only available on the 2.5L variant are Mazda i-ACTIVSENSE and i-ELOOP technology. The i-Stop Idling is a smart technology that turns off the engine when the car stops and restarts it when the car starts moving again. This feature saves fuel, especially in stop-and-go traffic.
GVC Plus is Mazda’s vehicle dynamics control technology that improves the handling of the car for better control on winding and slippery roads, as well as when avoiding obstacles. However, GVC Plus also refines the overall ride quality which provides better comfort for all passengers. Mazda i-ELOOP is an electrical energy regeneration system that converts kinetic energy into electricity as the vehicle brakes and decelerates.
Other standard safety features on the Mazda 6 include six SRS airbags (front driver, passenger, side, and curtain airbags), Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Brake Distribution (EBD), Emergency Brake Assist (EBA), Dynamic Stability Control (DSC), Traction Control System (TCS), Emergency Stop Signal (ESS), Hill Launch Assist (HLA), Walk Away Lock, and an Engine Immobilizer Anti-Theft System. Inside, the car has ISOFIX and seat belts with pretensioner, load limiter, and height-adjustable anchorages.
i-ACTIVSENSE is Mazda’s advanced safety suite that has advanced features including Adaptive Front-Lighting System (AFS), High Beam Control (HBC), Blind Spot Monitoring (BSM), Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA), Lane Departure Warning System (LDWS), Lane-Keep Assist System (LAS), Driver Attention Alert (DAA), front and rear Smart Brake Support (SBS), and lastly, Mazda Radar Cruise Control (MRCC)
The Mazda 6 is a luxurious executive sedan that offers plenty of features and a high level of finishing for its price point. Besides being stylish both inside and out, it boasts sporty and sure-footed driving dynamics thanks to Mazda’s SKYACTIV platform. Passenger and luggage space is more than enough for most families although the car is slightly smaller than its competitors.
