The BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé is a luxury C-segment sedan that offers the refinement and engaging driving dynamics of a BMW sedan in a more compact package. While it is available in several forms internationally including as a two-door coupé and a compact multi-purpose vehicle (MPV), Malaysian buyers can only buy the four-door sedan version. The BMW 2 Series goes against competitors such as the Audi A3 and Mercedes-Benz A-Class.
Variants
There is only one variant of the BMW 2 Series available in Malaysia which is the BMW 218i Gran Coupé M Sport.
Pricing
The BMW 218i Gran Coupé M Sport is priced competitively since it is locally assembled. As a result, this BMW 2 Series is priced at RM221,817.
Colors Available
The BMW 2 Series 218i is available in four colors, which are Alpine White, Melbourne Red, Snapper Rocks Blue Metallic, and Storm Bay Metallic.
Interior
The interior of the BMW 218i M Sport has a sporty and modern styling giving it a sportscar feel. There are also several driver-focused features such as the dashboard oriented toward the driver, M Sports leather-wrapped steering with multifunction buttons, and sports seats. Other interior features include the black leather upholstery on all seats, “Illuminated Brooklyn” patterned ambient lighting, a fully digital 10.25-inch instrument display, auto-dimming mirrors, automatic climate control, and a front center armrest with storage.
Exterior
The 218i M Sport’s exterior is characterized by its sloping coupé-like roofline and bold M Sport styling. The M Sport style package includes an aggressively styled bumper with large air intakes at the front, frameless doors, and full LED lighting. It also has 18-inch M light alloy wheels and an M Sport suspension system that gives the car a sharper, more responsive handling.
Cabin Space
The BMW 218i M Sport measures 4,526 mm long, 1,800 mm wide, and 1,420 mm tall. It also has a 430-liter boot which has additional under-floor storage.
Infotainment system
The infotainment on the BMW 218i M Sport is controlled on the 10.25-inch touchscreen Control Display. It runs on BMW’s Operating System 7 and can also be controlled via the iDrive Touch Controller knob and via voice control. Ths system also supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Music is played on six speakers throughout the cabin.
The BMW 218i M Sport is powered by a 1.5-liter turbocharged three-cylinder engine paired with a seven-speed Steptronic transmission which sends the power to the front wheels. It produces 140 PS of max power from 4,600 to 6,500 rpm and 220 Nm of max torque from 1,480 to 4,200 rpm. With this engine, the 218i M Sport has a 0 to 100 km/h acceleration time of 8.7 seconds and fuel consumption of 5.9 L/100 km.
This BMW 2 Series comes with all the standard safety features expected in a modern car along with the BMW Driving Assistant package. This package includes autonomous emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert with auto-braking and traffic sign recognition, and lane-keep assist. Other safety features worth noting are the six airbags, ISOFIX tethers on the front passenger and rear seats, electronic stability control, and Parking Assistant with Reversing Assistant.
The BMW 2 Series 218i M Sport offers everything buyers expect in a BMW vehicle at a more accessible price point. With the included M Sport suspension system, it is very engaging to drive without being overly harsh on the road, making it a great car for buyers who want a sporty family car.
