Car Rentals Just Got Easier with SOCAR. Just Tap, Unlock & Drive

The largest car sharing platform from South Korea SOCAR has arrived our shores. In their first overseas expansion to Malaysia, SOCAR aims to give people the convenience of driving a car without the commitment of owning one. The car-sharing app allows users to book, unlock and drive a car with just a few taps, and best of all, it all happens without a key. Users of the app have the flexibility to book a car for anything between 30 mins to up to a week.

With SOCAR teaming up with the government and strategically placing cars at major public transport hubs, multi-flex transportation is finally a reality. “We are very excited to be launching SOCAR at a time where we see multi-flex transportation becoming a reality in Malaysia. We believe that SOCAR can finally close the existing gap by giving members a choice to go carless and still enjoy driving to lunch and back with friends for just RM 8 an hour or driving to Melaka and back in a Mini Cooper for just RM25 an hour.” says Leon Foong, CEO of SOCAR Malaysia.

What is SOCAR?

SOCAR was launched in 2011 in Jeju Island, South Korea to create an eco-friendly car sharing community. In the last seven years, the company has grown from strength to strength and now sees over 3-million registered members in South Korea alone. From an operational capacity of 100 cars, the company has grown its fleet to over 9,000 cars, 3,000 dedicated parking zones and has now covered 81 cities in South Korea. Needless to say, it has really evolved to become South Korea’s largest car-sharing company today.

How does it work?

Convenience is the keyword here as SOCAR enables members to book a car from anywhere at any time! To use the services effectively, SOCAR members need to first download the app to their smartphones. They also need to verify their identity by uploading a photo of their IC or passport (in case of other nationalities) and a photo of their driver license details. Once registered, members can log into the app, select a car of their choice that is nearest to their vicinity and embark on their journey. Once the rider has finished his/ her booking, the car can be returned to a designated SOCAR parking space, ready for the next member.
