The results from Asean NCAP are out! Proton's X70, the brand’s first SUV has successfully achieved a 5-star rating for occupant protection.
The new X70 joins Proton’s Iriz, Persona, Preve and Suprima S as 5-star rated cars. While it is similar, the X70 obtains this score despite Asean NCAP’s latest 2017 – 2020 testing protocol that also takes into account safety assist technologies, which is 25 per cent of the overall score.
The X70 SUV is Proton’s first model to be equipped with a number of safety assist features including Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB), Forward Collision Warning (FCW), Lane Departure Warning (LDW) and Blind Spot Information System (BLIS). With all these equipped, the X70 was able to obtain a high score in the safety assist technology segment.
In 2012, Proton introduced Hot Press Forming (HPF) body structures which enhances structure integrity of the strength of its car by three times. The HPF cell is supplemented with six airbags on all variants, Isofix child seat mounting points as well as seat belts with pretensioners and load limiters. The combination of all these elements allowed the X70 to receive a perfect score for the side impact test, as well as for head protection technology. The new X70 will also come with various convenience features including voice command, Adaptive Cruise Control, Intelligent High Beam Control and a 360-camera for all-round visibility. Proton’s X70 will make its public debut next week at the 2018 Kuala Lumpur International Motor Show, where visitors will be able to get up close to experience the SUV.
