So, what is it? The <\/span><b>standard<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> cruise control is a system that allows the driver to set the car to maintain a fixed speed without the driver\u2019s input. This is great for long road trips as it reduces fatigue.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Adaptive<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> cruise control (ACC), on the other hand, is a more advanced cruise control. As the name suggests, adaptive cruise control <\/span><b>adapts<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to the traffic environment around you. In addition to setting a fixed speed, <\/span><b>adaptive cruise control <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">allows you to set the distance to maintain from the car in front of you. It\u2019s a lot smarter than standard cruise control because it even works during traffic jams. This means that the system will automatically stop the vehicle entirely when it is required to.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There are many <\/span><span style=\"color: #ff9900;\"><a style=\"color: #ff9900;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.caranddriver.com\/research\/a32813983\/adaptive-cruise-control\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">different types of adaptive cruise controls (ACC)<\/span><\/a><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> using different types of sensors, but the most common ones are radar-based and camera-based sensors. The radar-based sensors are usually positioned in front of the car, usually on a plastic slab.
