Kia hosted the world premiere of the much-anticipated Kia EV6<\/a><\/span> which is the South-Korean automotive brand’s first-ever all-electric SUV today and from just looking at this car during the live premiere, we can’t wait to have it released in Malaysia.<\/p>\n

Though we might not know when it will be seen on our Malaysian shores, here’s some interesting facts about this car.<\/p>\n

The Kia EV6 is built on the Electric Global Modular Platform (E-GMP)\u00a0<\/b><\/h2>\n

The EV6 is the first of Kia’s seven all-electric vehicles (EV) (to be launched by 2026)\u00a0 built on the E-GMP platform, which is shared with their parent company, Hyundai. The platform is exclusively built for the development of EVs, including the chassis of the vehicles which encompasses the battery, motor and power electric system. In layman terms, this platform aims to pioneer the EV industry to ensure these new-age vehicles are able to deliver performance according to today\u2019s driving lifestyles.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Here\u2019s a fun fact: the E-GMP is also shared by Hyundai\u2019s IONIQ 5 – a compact crossover that was launched in February this year. Since the car is built on the same platform, perhaps we can expect the same underpinnings of Hyundai\u2019s IONIQ 5, which is a 72.6 kWh usable battery, a driving range of 410 kilometers and its acceleration speed of 5.5 seconds when going from zero to 100 kilometer per hour.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Spacious Dimensions of the Kia EV6<\/strong><\/h3>\n

The EV6 stands at 4,680 mm long, 1,880 mm wide, 1,550 mm tall, and has a massive wheelbase of 2,900 mm. The result of all these numbers equals a huge amount of space for passengers. As for cargo space, the rear truck can fit 520 liters, or 1,300 liters with the rear seats folded. That’s not all, since there’s no combustion engine under the front hood, you’ll find an extra 20 liters storage compartment which is nice.<\/p>\n

The All-Powerful Kia EV6 Battery Performance<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Customers will have a choice of two different configurations – a 58-kWh or 77.4-kWh high-voltage battery, plus single-motor RWD or dual-motor AWD\u2014exactly like the\u00a0Hyundai IONIQ 5.<\/p>\n

The EV6 with the smaller battery uses a 125-kW (168-hp) rear motor and the AWD variants add a front motor for a total output of 173 kW (232 hp), This allows the car to go from 0 to 100 km\/h at 6.2 or 5.2 seconds depending on the drivetrain. When this EV is fitted with a larger battery, it gets a more powerful rear motor rated at 168 kW (225 hp), and with AWD, the dual-motor setup delivers a combined 239 kW (321 hp).<\/p>\n

The most exciting part of this car comes in the form of a variant called EV6 GT that serves up 430 kW (577 hp) and 546 lb-ft of torque, enabling 0-100 km\/h sprints in a mere 3.5 seconds and a top speed of 260 km\/h. It is also announced that the driving range of this car is up to 510 km with a single charge, and in Malaysia, that’s the approximate distance from Melaka to Perlis.<\/p>\n

The EV6 is compatible with 400V and 800V fast-charging stations and doesn\u2019t require additional components or adaptors. In the best scenario, you can expect to charge the battery from 10-80 percent of its capacity in just 18\u00a0minutes, with less than 4.5 minutes required to get roughly 100 km back.<\/p>\n
