The days of free Touch \u2018n Go\u2019s (TNG) Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) system is coming to an end. The public will need to cough up RM35 for the RFID tags starting from 15 February this year.<\/p>\n

The RFID tags had been given free via a public pilot program that started in September 2018. During the period, TNG invested in one million RFID tags for use across 22 highways. The main benefit of the RFID tag is a seamless toll experience<\/a><\/span>, thanks to an embedded radio-frequency chip affixed to the vehicle and linked via the user\u2019s TNG eWallet account.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Apart from toll payments, which are the primary use of the RFID, TNG is aiming to expand the use of the system in the second half of 2020. The intention is to introduce payments through RFID and TNG\u2019s eWallet for car parks and petrol stations by Q3 and Q4 of 2020 respectively. In Q1 of 2021, the system will also reach out to the retail sector with plans to include drive-thrus.<\/p>\n

As of the writing of this article, TNG\u2019s RFID system is in use on most highways with open-system toll plazas. These highways include AKLEH, BESRAYA, DUKE, Guthrie Corridor, Cheras-Kajang, Penang Bridge, KESAS, Kuala Lumpur-Karak, LATAR, LDP, LEKAS, LKSA, MEX, NPE, SILK, SMART, SPRINT and more. The remaining closed-system toll plazas will support the use of TNG\u2019s RFID system by 1 April 2020.<\/p>\n

TNG recently introduced an e-refund system with TNG cards through its eWallet app. Users only need to link their TNG cards to the eWallet, which will prevent the card from going dormant. It also allows for faster e-refund for users who have completed their e-KYC (electronic Know Your Customer) process<\/a><\/span> in the app. Refunds below the value of RM10 will be completed within 24 hours. Refunds above RM10 will require seven to 14 working days.<\/p>\n
