Mercedes-Benz unveiled the new GLA in its all-new second-generation form on 11th<\/sup> December 2019. Under the Mercedes-Benz brand, the GLA combines the best from the brand\u2019s highest-volume segments, the compact cars and SUVs. In terms of sales, more than 1 million units of the first GLA has been sold.<\/p>\n

Exterior Design and Dimensions<\/strong><\/h3>\n

The overall proportions of the new GLA are now more SUV focused than its predecessor. It retains the powerful shoulders on the body and the coup\u00e9-like lines of the side windows. The doors themselves reach over the sills, hence improving ease of access and at the same time, keeping the door frames free of dirt and improving impact protection in the event of a side collision.<\/p>\n

All-round protective cladding adds structure and emphasises the vehicle\u2019s off-road nature. When it comes to numbers, the new GLA is bigger in all areas except for its length which has been reduced by 14 mm. Notable changes include the height increase of 104 mm and the added wheelbase and width at 30 mm each.<\/p>\n

Interior quality and Size<\/strong><\/h3>\n

The new GLA interior leaps over the predecessor\u2019s layout with the latest in the company\u2019s cabin interior design. Despite following the A-Class\u2019 structure, designers have made the GLA stand out on its own with the tubular door handles and centre console.<\/p>\n

The widescreen version with two 10.25-inch displays across the driver and centre dashboard is a freestanding unit. Included as standard is the intuitively operated MBUX infotainment system (Mercedes-Benz User Experience). MBUX can be individually configured with the aid of a range of options and comes with augmented reality navigation, learning software, and voice control amongst others.<\/p>\n

Comfort is improved as the seating position for both driver and front passenger is higher and more upright than in the outgoing model. Utility has been made better as well \u2013 the rear seats can be optionally moved front and back by 14 cm and the rear seat backrests set steeper to make room for cargo at the rear.<\/p>\n

Interior dimensions are more spacious than before. Across the board, there\u2019s more rear legroom, headroom, elbow and shoulder room.<\/p>\n

Driving Assistance Systems<\/strong><\/h3>\n

The 2020 GLA features the latest driving assistance systems that offers the driver cooperative support and providing one of the highest standards of active safety in the compact car segment. The list from the Driving Assistance Package includes the turning manoeuvre function (autonomously stops turning upon sensing approaching vehicle), exit warning function (works together with Blind Spot Warning for passengers when exiting vehicle), and also a warning when pedestrians are detected near zebra crossings.<\/p>\n

All the latest systems above is further supported by Active Steer Assist, Active Speed Limit Assist, Evasive Steering Assist, Active Lane Keeping Assist, Active Blind Spot Assist, Active Brake Assist, Pre-Safe Plus and more.<\/p>\n

Two engine models have been announced under this new GLA. The first is the GLA 200 with a 1.33-litre engine developing 163 hp and 250 Nm of torque at 1,620 to 4,000 rpm, and mated to a 7G-dual clutch transmission. The other is a GLA 35 4Matic AMG with a much more powerful 2.0-litre unit developing 306 hp and 400 Nm of torque at 3,000 to 4,000 rpm mated to an eight-speed AMG Speedshift dual clutch transmission.<\/p>\n
