UMW Toyota has officially launched the all-new 12th<\/sup> generation Toyota Corolla in Malaysia. The new Corolla is built on Toyota\u2019s New Global Architecture that allows the brand more flexibility when it comes to engineering and optimisation designs for different type of vehicles.<\/p>\n

The Corolla nameplate needs no introduction. It has been around for over 50 years and Toyota has sold over 46 million cars worldwide. Locally, the all-new Corolla is launched as is, not including the Altis like before. However, the Altis badge will remain on our local cars.<\/p>\n

There are 2 available at launch, a 1.8E base and 1.8G high spec. Powertrain is identical on both.<\/p>\n

Body Structure<\/strong><\/p>\n

In terms of the structure, the all-new Corolla has a Circular Frame which has side member outer reinforcements which are rigidly coupled with the rear door frame. The enhanced frame rigidity contributes to providing excellent handling stability. As for the suspension layout, not only is there MacPherson struts in the front but Toyota has now included double wishbone layout for the rear. This provides better handling stability and ride comfort.<\/p>\n

Power and Specifications<\/strong><\/p>\n

Underneath the hood lies a 1.8-litre 4-cylinder petrol with Dual VVT-I and outputs 137 hp and 173 Nm of torque at 4,000 rpm. It is mated to a 7-speed Sequential Shiftmatic CVT. Kerb weight is 1,365 kg while fuel tank capacity is 50-litres. Toyota says that the engine has been optimised to run on Ron95 fuel and offers a good balance of performance and efficiency. In terms of performance, Toyota\u2019s internal tests shows that the all-new car performs better in passing acceleration \u2013 taking 3.4-seconds (3.9-seconds in the previous) in the 40 to 60 km\/h sprint and 3.3-seconds (3.9-seconds previous) in the 60 to 80 km\/h sprint.<\/p>\n

Width is 1,780 mm, length is 4,630 mm and height is 1,435 mm. Compared to the previous 11th<\/sup> generation Corolla Altis, there\u2019s a 10 mm increase in length and 5 mm in width. Wheelbase is the same as before at 2,700 mm. In case anybody is asking, the current Honda Civic wheelbase is also 2,700 mm.<\/p>\n

On the safety end, both cars come standard with 7 Airbags, VSC, Traction Control, EBD and Brake Assist, Hill Start Assist Control, Emergency Stop Signal, Front and Rear Parking Sensors, Tyre Pressure Monitoring System, Rear Isofix, and Security and Solar film.<\/p>\n

The specialty for the 1.8G is the inclusion of the Toyota Safety Sense, which adds on Pre-collision System, Lane Departure Alert with Steering Asist and Lane Tracing Assist, Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, Automatic High Beam, and Blind Spot Monitor.<\/p>\n

Toyota is also offering an optional (RM 1,700) install for the Vehicle Telematics System on the Corolla. This connectivity feature uses GPS to track the location of the car at all times, making it easier to track by Police if the vehicle is stolen.<\/p>\n

The all-new Corolla starts from RM 128,888 for the 1.8E<\/strong> and RM 136,888 for the 1.8G<\/strong> variant on-the-road without insurance and is fully imported from Thailand. Colour options include Celestite Gray Metallic, White Pearl, Silver Metallic, Attitude Black and Red Mica Metallic. Ownership includes 5-years warranty from the date of first registration with unlimited mileage based on terms and conditions.<\/p>\n
