Isuzu Malaysia has launched the facelifted D-Max that comes with a new 1.9-litre turbodiesel engine, and is joined by the current 3.0-litre in the range. To cater to a wider audience, there will be a total of 11 variants including Single and Double-Cab, Manual and Auto, Hi and Low-Ride, and Type-B (Basic) and Premium. The new 1.9-litre unit effectively replaces the 2.5-litre engine and is better in all aspects including weight, emissions, efficiency and power.<\/p>\n

\"\" \"\"The 1.9-litre engine has been said to be revolutionary for Isuzu, and we couldn\u2019t agree more. The engine was developed internally by Isuzu Motors in Japan and has a higher output of 150PS at 3,600 rpm (up by 10%) and 350 Nm of torque between 1,800 to 2,600 rpm (up by 9%) compared to the outgoing 2.5-litre engine. It is also mated to new six-speed manual and automatic transmissions.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

What\u2019s impressive with this is that while engine output has increased, tests conducted in Thailand show an improvement of 19% in fuel economy and a reduction in internal friction by 37% suggests less wear on engine components.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

The results of the low fuel consumption and CO2 means that the 1.9-litre D-Max is the first pick-up truck in Malaysia to be certified based on UN Regulations 1010 with the Energy Efficient Vehicle (EEV) status by the Road Transport Department of Malaysia (JPJ).<\/p>\n

All these translates to better cost savings in ownership for the 1.9-litre. Road tax is now 52% lower across the board in both Peninsular Malaysia and Sabah and Sarawak, costing RM 399.20 in Peninsular compared to RM 839.20 for the 2.5-litre.<\/p>\n

Not forgetting the 3.0-litre variant which outputs 177PS and 380 Nm of torque between 1,800 and 2,800 rpm mated to five-speed manual or automatic transmissions.<\/p>\n

\"\" \"\" \"\"<\/p>\n

In terms of visual updates, the exterior now has a new front grille, headlights with bi-LED projectors and DRLs. Body decals, new 18-inch alloy rims and an optional tailgate assist function for easy opening and closing. Inside, the new D-Max gets new leather fabric seats, 8-inch Infotainment with GPS (depending on variant), and USB port on the rear centre compartment.<\/p>\n

There\u2019s also Hill Descent Control (HDC) for easier descending slopes, and a new Vehicle Launch Assist Control that increases initial torque on gradients of 25% or more. By including this, driving off will be quicker without suffering the effects of turbo lag when accelerating from idle.<\/p>\n
