Here’s How You Can Get a Guaranteed Job with Carsome Academy

There are many career paths you can embark on but it all boils down to factors such as your skillset, passion or your long-term goals. While there are many choices out there, Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programs are gaining popularity.

In fact, TVET graduates are said to have an upper hand in securing jobs within a specific industry, compared to fresh college graduates. They are also in high demand because they have specific skills that employers are looking for.

TVET offers both classroom education (theory), and hands-on practical job training (technical) to fully equip them for a specific skill such as becoming a motor vehicle inspector. So, let’s dive deeper into this.

What is TVET?

TVET is a training program that equips you with technical and vocational education to prepare you for a specific skill, within a specific industry – you may know it as ‘vocational training’ or ‘apprenticeship’, among other names.

Previously, TVET carried the misconception that it was for those who are less outstanding in academics but these days, TVET graduates are attracting more employers because of the mismatch in skills within the industry when it comes to employability. The TVET program aims to provide valuable, practical knowledge and skills to increase their potential in attracting job opportunities.

Besides that, TVET is also part of the Vocational Education Transformation Plan which aims to make Malaysia a high-income nation. TVET programs are offered at certificate, diploma, degree and postgraduate levels in Malaysia, which are offered by various colleges or agencies – these certificates are recognized by several bodies including the Malaysian Quality Accreditation (MQA) and Department of Skills Development (JPK)

In Malaysia, there are two routes to enter a TVET program – with Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) or Form 3 Assessment (PT3). With this, SPM graduates have a choice of furthering their studies with a Certificate or Diploma in a highly skilled TVET program. This is also a common route for students who are less academically-inclined.

However, teenagers outside the education system without an SPM certificate but are PT3 graduates can opt for a National Certificate and Dual Training System (NDTS) – this is also known as Sistem Latihan Dual Nasional (SLDN). NDTS or SLDN are offered at public or private training centers (PLK) where they can enroll and also earn a Sijil Kemahiran Malaysia (SKM) certificate.

What is NDTS (SLDN)?

NDTS is a dual training system that utilizes workplace and institutional training, specifically aimed to provide opportunities for PT3 graduates or those without an SPM certificate. This concept follows Germany’s industry-oriented training concept, where they aim to provide a skilled workforce to meet the requirements.

For example, if you are keen on a career in the automotive industry, courses such as Carsome Academy’s Roadworthiness Course provides students, or school leavers that hold a minimum pass in PT3, with specific all-rounded training to be a certified motor vehicle inspector.

NDTS consists of between 70 and 80 percent of practical training (performance), with 20 to 30 percent of theoretical learning (knowledge).

Graduates from the NDTS program are presented with either one of the following:

  • Sijil Kemahiran Malaysia (SKM) Tahap 1, 2, 3;
  • Diploma Kemahiran Malaysia (DKM); or
  • Diploma Lanjutan Kemahiran Malaysia (DLKM).

Carsome Academy graduates are awarded the SKM Level 3 in Motor Vehicle Inspection, a certification recognized by Malaysian technical industries.

Currently, there are two programs – the Motor Vehicle Inspection (Roadworthiness) course, and the Pengiktirafan Pencapaian Terdahulu (PPT). However, both of these two courses are awarded with the same SKM Level 3 in Motor Vehicle Inspection.

What is the Difference Between the Roadworthiness Course & the PPT Program?

There are two main factors that make each of these Carsome Academy offerings different – the requirement or course entry points, and the course duration.

Motor Vehicle Inspection (Roadworthiness): a 12-month course with guaranteed job placement in Carsome

This follows the NDTS or SLDN program with 30 percent theoretical lessons, followed by 70 percent  industrial training at any Carsome Inspection Center in Malaysia.

  • Course duration: 12 months (three months of theoretical lessons and nine months of hands-on training)
  • Entry requirements: Malaysian citizens below 30 years old and holds a minimum pass in Sistem Pentaksiran Tingkatan Tiga (PT3)

Pengiktirafan Pencapaian Terdahulu (PPT): a fast-track course for experienced workers

Carsome Academy is also an accredited Recognition for Prior Achievement (Pusat Pengiktirafan Pencapaian Terdahulu, PPT) test center that offers the Program Penilaian Amali (PPA). This is a fast-track program specifically for technical workers from automotive sectors who want to obtain the SKM Level 3 in Motor Vehicle Inspection certification.

The PPT assessment method is for working individuals with no formal qualification but are able to demonstrate skills outlined in the National Occupational Skills Standards (NOSS).

  • Course duration: three coaching (practical) sessions and a one-day assessment
  • Entry requirements: Malaysian citizens with a minimum of three years working in the automotive industry
