Mitsubishi Conducts Campaign to replace Engine Control Relay and Airbag Inflator

Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia (MMM) has requested for owners of Mitsubishi Lancer and Outlander, imported from Japan and the locally-assembled ASX to replace the engine control relay of their vehicles. Overall, there are about 5,000 affected cars nationwide.

The relay protects the engine’s ECU from any sudden surge of voltage, or breakdowns. If it is not replaced, there is a high chance that the internal parts of the relay may fail and subsequently affect the engine’s ECU function. Separately, MMM will also be conducting a Field Fix Campaign to replace the passenger side airbag inflator for 115 units of Pajero Exceed manufactured from March 2010-July 2012.

Vehicles Manufacturing Year
ASX Compact SUV March 2015 – November 2016
Lancer Sedan December 2014 – February 2016
Outlander SUV December 2015 – June 2016

Some of the passenger side airbag may release metal fragments when deployed causing injuries to the driver. This exercise is part of the Takata airbag recall campaign worldwide. MMM will issue notification letters to all affected Mitsubishi owners and the full cost of the replacement will be borne by the company.

Also, MMM kindly request all affected customers to make an appointment at any of the Mitsubishi Motors authorised service centres for the replacement of the above. For the list of service centres and further information, visit: www.mitsubishi-motors.com.my or contact MMM’s Customer Careline at 1800-18-8161 (9 am – 5 pm, Mondays to Fridays excluding public holidays).

Recently, Toyota and Lexus Malaysia also did a recall for airbag sensors. Find out more by reading the article.
