Must Know: The NEW Vehicle Ownership Certificate (VOC)
06/06/2016

Recently, our Road Transport Department (JPJ) announced that the days of the super outdated geran will be over. It will be replaced with what they call the "Vehicle Ownership Certificate" or VOC. This is a summary of WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW about the new VOC.

Replaces the REGISTRATION CARD or Geran

The new VOC will be online-based and it will replace the old, physical Registration Card (RC) or geran. The JPJ expects all vehicles owners in Malaysia to have moved from the old geran to the VOC by January 2020.

As it replaces the geran, there will be no physical documents needed in order to perform road tax renewals, changing vehicle ownership or even vehicle details such as vehicle colour, displacement, owner's address etc. All of the mentioned will be stored online and can be accessed any time.

Purpose

The move is to streamline and broaden the department's online services where ownership transfers and other transactions can now be done more quickly and efficiently. Apparently, it is also to deter and prevent car cloning syndicates and activities. Wonder what your thoughts are on that matter!

Done in THREE STAGES

Stage 1 - Beginning 1st June 2016, The Road Transport Department or "JPJ" will start issuing VOCs to owners of newly-registered vehicles or those applying for transfer of ownership.

Stage 2 - Beginning 1st September 2016, VOCs will be issued to car owners who have their roadtax renewed and to owners who make amendments or corrections on the details of their vehicles. I.e. Paint colour, displacement etc.

Stage 3 - Beginning 1st of January 2017, JPJ will issue VOCs to owners who voluntarily go to the JPJ offices to replace their Registration Cards or geran with the VOC.

Stage 4 - There is NO Stage 4, this is not Initial D.

No more QUEUEING!

.....because all transactions will done online. Unless you're still using a Nokia 3310, who wouldn't like that?!
