Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia (MMM) has officially introduced the new locally-assembled Outlander 2.4L SUV today. This CKD unit replaces the previous CBU model that was imported from Japan and launched in 2016. Together the new Outlander line-up of 2.4L and 2.0L introduced in September last year is now both CKD units.
First of all, the new Outlander 2.4L is powered with the same DOHC MIVEC engine that produces 165 hp at 6,000 rpm and a torque of 222 Nm at 4,100 rpm. Paired with an INVECS-III CVT transmission with paddle shifters for better control. Of course, all the Outlander variants locally comes with an intelligent 4WD system is standard.
The practical side of the Multi-Select 4WD system in the Outlander has three selectable modes – 4WD Eco, 4WD Auto and 4WD Lock. The Outlander’s ECO Mode is two-wheel drive as standard, which will give assurance that you’re getting the best fuel economy and the lowest emissions.
Overall safety is unchanged, with Seven Airbags, ABS and EBD, Brake Assist, Active Stability & Traction Control (ASTC), Hill Start Assist, ISOFIX child seat mounts too. Also passive safety of the Reinforced Impact Safety Evolution (RISE) body construction from Mitsubishi adds extra sturdiness to the vehicle.
New to the fold to the 2.4L Mitsubishi Outlander is the Electronic Parking Brake that comes with Auto Hold Assist function. First available as an update to the original CBU 2.4L Outlander in March last year, it opened up space in the centre console. Apart from that, Mitsubishi has equipped the Outlander with a Brake Override System that works as a failsafe measure – to prioritise the brakes if both the brake and accelerator pedals are pressed simultaneously.
Additional from the original CBU version is the inclusion of a new All Round Monitor and Digital Video Recorder (DVR). The All Round Monitor will assist parking and lane-changing and also covers blind spots. The Digital Video Recorder (DVR) comes as an extra feature to capture moments or any incidents on the road.
The new Outlander 2.4L has Full LED head and tail lamps with LED daytime running lights on the front, that sharpens up the look. In addition, the 2.4L comes in a new stylish two-tone wheel design plus an aerodynamic rear spoiler. There is also sunroof in its spacious seven-seater cabin and a powered Electronic Tailgate with anti-pinch function like before. A 7-inch HD touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay functionality allows seamless connection between iPhone and car. Air Gesture Control is a nifty add-on that certainly makes things easier should you require it.
Colours for this CKD unit is available Ruby Black, Red Metallic and Solar White. Ruby Black also is now included in this 2.4L, first seen for the 2.0 CKD model, and is only available exclusively for the Malaysian market. As a celebratory note, Mitsubishi Motors is currently having a Chinese New Year promotion of discounts up to RM 4,000 for the Outlander. It will come with MMM’s two years free maintenance and standard factory warranty of five years and unlimited mileage. The new 2018 Outlander 2.4L SUV will be priced at RM 155,000 on-the-road without insurance and GST inclusive, lower priced than the 2017 2.4L SUV which was priced at RM 171,000 (OTR inclusive of GST and Insurance charges). That is about RM 16,000 saved up for your new year!
