Just this afternoon, TC Subaru launched the All-New second generation 2018 Subaru XV in Malaysia. The new XV impresses in appearance, performance and practicality. Offered in two variants of a 2.0i and 2.0i-P, prices are RM118,819 and RM125,868 respectively. What makes the new XV better than the outgoing version? Read on to find out improvements to the body, design, performance and safety.
The 2018 Subaru XV shifts a change with a new Subaru Global Platform, which increases body and chassis rigidity by over 70 per cent than the previous XV. With the new Subaru Global Platform added, it massively reduces vibrations and body roll which makes for a quieter, and smoother ride. A lower centre of gravity and quicker steering gear ratio has resulted in straight line stability for drivers.
Both the XV 2.0i and XV 2.0i-P will have the Direct Injection Naturally Aspirated Boxer Engine which produces 154 hp at 6000 rpm. The Boxer Engine is 12kg lighter than the previous generation and is equipped with Direct Injection to produce more power and provide better fuel efficiency.
Subaru’s Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive (AWD) allocates power to all wheels evenly for better traction. This system exploits the car’s low centre of gravity to allow for a much more balanced and safer drive. When X-Mode is active, it features Hill Descent Control to help the car maintain a constant speed when travelling downhill.
The new Lineartronic CVT is also 7.8 kg lighter and features auto-step shift control with 7-speed manual mode that allows the driver to shift gears via paddle shifters. It is interchangeable and allows the driver to have greater control during the drive. Lineartronic can adjust to any ratio in its range for its stepless gear changes, and comes paired with Subaru’s active torque split AWD system.
Exterior and Cabin
The new exterior design is cleaner and features Subaru’s iconic hexagonal grille with C-shaped headlights, matte-black cladding on the front bumper and new 17-inch aluminium wheel design. The vehicle is positioned in a wider and lower standpoint, which gives way to the aerodynamics yet retaining the high ground clearance of 220mm.
Steering Responsive Headlights are fitted on the higher variant 2.0i-P, which allows the beam to move according to the driving direction of the car’s steering. This helps with safety and visibility on the road in the dark.
Inside the cabin, an 8.0-inch touch screen display infotainment system is featured in both variants. It offers integrated navigation systems and the standard smartphone connectivity to stay connected. However on the higher specified 2.0i-P variant, the Multi-Function Display provides vehicle information including vehicle torque distribution, mileage and more. The 2.0i lacks the dual-zone climate control, Auto headlamps and Rain Sensing wipers but features cruise control as standard.
This section is where the All-New Subaru XV shines. The increase used of high-tensile steel in the new Subaru Global Platform’s frame structure has allowed the brand to score a 5-Star Euro NCAP on top of the Grand Prix Award in Japan New Car Assessment Program (JNCAP) with the highest score ever. The new XV features 7 SRS Airbags as standard on top of ABS, EBD, Active Torque Vectoring, Brake Assist, Isofix and Vehicle Dynamics Control System.
